    • A rotary actuator for a valve includes a cam mechanism for transmitting opening force to a movable valve member to move the valve member off a valve seat, against the bias of a closing spring. The cam mechanism does not transmit spring force to the valve member when the valve member is being moved to the closed position or is in the closed position. Also, the parts of the cam mechanism have a large surface area of contact when the valve is in the open position, to minimize unit loading of the cam surfaces. The movable cam is movable axially relative to the actuator handle. The movable valve member is blocked from rotation relative to the valve body. The cam mechanism does not transmit spring force to the movable valve member when the valve member is in the closed position.

    • A simplified, economical and improved single control proportioning valve for liquids which is devoid of a conventional valve body and which responds accurately to actuation of the single control despite no requirement for close tolerances in the component parts. The proportioning valve has a simple support adapted to be mounted on a sink, a pair of supply pipes for pressurized liquids associated with the support, a pair of spaced resilient tubes, corresponding ends thereof being in communication with the discharge ends of the supply pipes, a spout on the support communicating with the other ends of the resilient tubes, an elongated control cam extending between and in engagement with the resilient tubes to vary the internal cross sectional areas of the tubes, the cam being rotatable and axially movable and having a cylindrical valve-closing length and an eccentric conical valve-opening length that controls rate of flow and proportioning, and dual bearing means on the support for the cam at opposite end portions of the cam, the dual bearing means being effective to stabilize the cam against disruptive lateral and axial movements which in the absence of the dual bearing means tend to result from pressures exerted on the cam by the resilient tubes due to the pressurized liquids therein. The disclosed valve also includes structure which cooperates to mix thoroughly the proportioned fluids, and to reduce noise to an acceptably low level.

    • A pinch valve for throttling or terminating the flow of a fluid through a pipe or the like. The valve features two cam bodies within an extension of the valve body. An inner cam body is cammed into non-rotational translational movement in a direction towards and away from the flexible and resilient sleeve of the pinch valve by the cam surface of an outer cam body of circular cross-section which is at least partially rotatable by displacement of a turn handle. The handle may be partially turned about the axis of the outer cam body, to partially constrict or throttle fluid flow, or further turned to completely pinch the sleeve shut and totally terminate fluid flow.

    • A diaphragm valve cartridge for a faucet wherein a generally cylindrical valve body has a surface recess which receives at least one resilient valve member of rubber-type material of conforming size. An inlet port from a support duct and an outlet port to a discharge duct are located in the valve body recess in spaced relation with the recess walls and bottom engaged by the valve member. A retainer holds the valve member in the recess and applies sufficient pressure on the marginal portion of the valve member to establish a liquid-proof seal between the valve member and valve body which exists at least at low liquid pressure. The resilient valve member responds to liquid pressure within the valve, and the seal with the valve body is enhanced in proportion to liquid pressure, giving the valve a self-sealing characteristic over a wide range of liquid pressures. A movable actuator has a cam surface which positions the resilient valve member in relation to the inlet port, closing the port in one position, and in other positions varying the spacing between the valve member and port for varying the rate of flow through the valve. The various parts of the valve, including the actuator, are preassembled economically, and the valve is installed at the point of use as a unit, thereby avoiding any installation step, such as conventional compression seal, which might permit leakage in the valve. The disclosed valve has two supply lines, and when one of these is externally blocked, the valve operates as a single supply line valve. The liquid handled by the valve flows from the supply duct to the discharge duct without traversing a region within the valve cartridge from which leakage is possible as a result of abuse or improper installation. Valves embodying the invention easily can be installed by the user without tools of any kind, and the structure involved in installation is such that leakage at the couplings for the supply and discharge lines is virtually impossible.

The stem is descended by an actuator, composed of a step motor and a cam mechanism located at a position above the stem, that changes a rotational motion of the step motor to a linear motion and transmits the linear motion to the stem. A diaphragm within a valve chamber or a valve body at a lower end part of the stem rests on the valve seat. A lift support mechanism that supports the actuator to freely ascend and descend is arranged at a bonnet that covers the valve chamber. A height fine-adjustment mechanism, arranged at the lift supporting mechanism, finely adjusts the height of the actuator relative to the stem so as to perform zero-point adjustment of the valve.
