    • The electronic winterizer is a device that is installed in the interior of a boat. It winterizes an inboard/outboard engine without the use of a person knowledgeable of this process. It can be accomplished in or out of the water. The invention allows a boat owner to operate his inboard/outboard engine in cold temperatures without having to employ a person to winterize the engine each time he uses it. Thus it is made useful all winter. To operate, the inboard/outboard engine is first started. After the engine reaches an acceptable temperature, the thermostat is opened. While the engine is running the operator turns on a switch that is mounted in the dash of the driver's console. The switch activates an electronic timer that operates a DC powered valve and pump. At the time of operation the valve opens and the pump starts. The pump drains antifreeze from a holding tank that is also installed in the boat's interior. The pump dispenses antifreeze through the open valve and into the injector. The injector is mounted in the hose that provides coolant to the engine and outdrive. The antifreeze passes through the injector at such an angle that it mixes the antifreeze and water coolant to a ratio acceptable to prevent the unit from freezing.

    • Apparatus for killing marine life, such as zebra mussels, in the cooling system (14) of a boat having a water-cooled internal combustion engine (11) includes a flexible bag-like enclosure (20) which is adapted to be mounted on the boat so as to provide a closed volume of water communicating with the cooling system inlet (18) and cooling system outlet (19). When the engine is allowed to idle in neutral, cooling water is drawn from the enclosure and is circulated through the cooling system in heat exchange relation to the engine, and is discharged back into the enclosure. The temperature of water in the enclosure and cooling system will therefor increase. After the engine has been operated for a period of time, the temperature of water in the enclosure and the cooling system will increase to a level necessary to kill marine life in the cooling system.

    • A releasably retainable fresh water flushing adaptor and method of manufacture thereof for outboard and stern-drive marine engines having an external lower propulsion housing which includes at least one fresh water intake port along the bottom forwardly bulbous portion of the lower housing. The flushing adaptor includes a molded cover which is mateably, releasably self-retaining over this forwardly portion of the lower housing and also includes a fitting connected or connectable into the bottom forwardly portion of the cover for releasable attachment to a supply of fresh water. The fitting has an internal passage in alignment and in fluid communication with the housing water intake. A water distribution groove formed into the interior surface of the cover adjacent the fitting for an increased water flow into the water intake is also provided. Releasable strap means either connected to or completely circumscribing lower housing and cover may also be provided to eliminate any tendency for the cover to be forced from disengagement with the lower housing by engine vibration or water pressure.

    • A self-gripping spring-biased accessory for directing water from an outside source to flush out the cooling system of a marine engine. The accessory comprises a U-shaped retainer terminating at its upper ends in a pair of resilient suction cups which are constructed to bear against the cooling water intake ports on opposite walls of the engine housing. At least one of the cups is connected to an external source of flushing water. A particular feature of the invention, disclosed in several different embodiments of the invention, is that the U-shaped retainer is provided with an auxiliary device to impart a spring-bias to the legs, urging them to move towards one another to secure the suction cups in resilient sealed relation against the cooling water intake ports. In a further modification, a device is provided to apply the flushing water simultaneously to intake ports on opposite walls of the engine housing.
