    • The invention relates to a tracked vehicle (10) comprising tracks (38) which are driven, a drive unit (28, 28) for each driven track (38), containing a drive wheel (52) which engages in said track (38), an electric motor (18, 20), a drive train (30, 32) which is connected before the drive wheel (52), and a shaft (34, 36) which driveably interconnects the electric motor (18, 20) and the drive train (30, 32). The invention is characterized in that vibration damping means (44) are interconnected between the wall (40, 42) and the drive unit (26, 28) so that the drive unit (26, 28) is vibrationally isolated from the wall (40, 42) of the vehicle pan (12).

    • A crawler belt drive apparatus which can reduce meshing noises of drive sprocket and crawler belt in a reliable manner over a long period of time. An annular link guide member is provided on a housing of a reducer concentrically with the drive sprocket. As bushes of the respective track links of the crawler belt are meshed with the drive sprocket, the link guide member is held in sliding contact with inner end faces of the track links to maintain a clearance constantly between each bush and a bottom of the drive sprocket, thereby preventing the bushes from directly hitting against the bottom of the drive sprocket to suppress meshing noises or vibrations effectively.

    • A replacement endless drive track for use on a heavy duty tracked vehicle such as a bulldozer or tank includes a reinforced polymeric drive belt, two parallel sets of closely spaced rail blocks adjacent the drive belt, a plurality of drive pins extending between opposing ones of the rail blocks, and supporting members adjoining the drive belt and the rail blocks. The rail blocks are substantially Z-shaped, such that a forward portion of one rail block is offset and overlaps the rearward portion of a directly adjacent rail block. The rail blocks, drive pins and drive treads may be comprised of a polymeric material which is harder than the polymeric material of the drive belt. The drive pins may alternatively be disposed at a lateral end of the supporting members to accommodate a tracked vehicle with peripherally disposed drive sprockets. In addition, the frame of the tracked vehicle may be adapted to provide for attachment of widened rollers which roll directly on the track for smoother and quieter travel. In an alternative manner, a conventional endless track may be modified to accommodate the widened rollers by fixing a plurality of supporting pads to the grousers of the endless track, the widened rollers riding directly on the supporting pads.

    • A high speed tracked vehicle has a sprocket extending from each side thereof coupled to an engine through which driving power is supplied to each of a pair of driving tracks. The driving tracks are supported on either side of the vehicle hull by an idler wheel and the driving sprocket. A plurality of ground wheels distributes the vehicle weight over that portion of the tracks in contact with the surface underlying the vehicle. The tracks include a plurality of interconnected shoes each of which includes an inner elastomeric insert disposed to contact the idler wheel at the rim. Idler wheel rim and track shoe contact being a source of mechanical vibrations causing internal hull noise, one or more continuous peripheral ridges or crowns are formed on the rims so that the area of contact between the rims and the elastomeric inserts is reduced and the compliance of the system is increased. When multiple crowns are present, the crown on a larger radius makes initial contact with the elastomeric inserts absorbing most of the momentum of the shoe directed in a direction normal to the rim, and the crown on a lesser radius subsequently makes contact with the inserts to reduce compliance and thereby prevent rim contact with the metal portions of the shoes.
