摘要： The invention relates to a method for the application of a reusable fastener, comprising a sealing band and a sealing strip, to a diaper. According to the invention, strips, comprising a support and a backed material with sealing elements in the form of loops or hooks, are fixed to the diaper without adhesive. In a first method step the strips are attached by means of thermobonding or ultrasound welding. In a second methods step, the above are then fixed to the counter-surface by cold pressing or ultrasound welding.

摘要： A method is provided for making an edge-sealed fuel cell membrane electrode assembly comprising the steps of: i) providing a suitable membrane electrode assembly lay-up; ii) positioning a suitable annular layer of a thermoplastic; and iii) applying pressure and heat sufficient to melt impregnate the thermoplastic into the fluid transport layer or layers of the membrane electrode assembly lay-up and simultaneously bond the fluid transport layer or layers to the polymer electrolyte membrane of the membrane electrode assembly lay-up. The polymer electrolyte membrane of the membrane electrode assembly lay-up may be perforated in its outer sealing area. Membrane electrode assemblies made according to the method of the present invention are also provided.

摘要： An improved method and apparatus for bonding together juxtaposed webs which are subject to being ultrasonically bonded together such as, for example, thermoplastic films or non-woven thermoplastic webs or elastomeric films to form a laminate as the webs are being driven forward at a relatively high velocity. The apparatus includes an ultrasonic horn and a power-rotated anvil cylinder which define a bonding passageway therebetween, and a rotatable pressure roll which is biased towards the anvil adjacent the downstream end of the bonding passageway to apply a predetermined level of compressive force to the bonded regions of the laminate issuing from the passageway before the bonds in the bonded regions become fully set upon cooling. In a preferred apparatus embodiment of the invention the anvil has a relief-type bonding pattern on its circumferential surface; and the pressure roll is sufficiently rigid and so configured and disposed that substantially only the portions of the laminate juxtaposed raised elements of the bonding pattern are subjected to such post-bonding compression.

摘要： Apparatus for forming a seal between layers of a carton of thermoplastic coated paperboard material and the like wherein the thermoplastic material in the area to be sealed serves as the sealant and is activated to flow by frictional heat generated by a vibration welding horn and is then allowed to cool and set under pressure to form the seal between the layers. The carton first moves to an activating station wherein the layers to be sealed are engaged on opposite surfaces by a vibrating horn and a back-up member (in the form of an anvil or a mandrel) for a time sufficient to activate the thermoplastic material to flow. The carton is then carried to a clamping and sealing station at a different location from the activating station with the thermoplastic material in the activated state. The layers to be sealed with the activated thermoplastic is then engaged on opposite surfaces by a pressure pad and the back-up member for a predetermined period of time to permit the activated thermoplastic to cool and set and form a seal. A holding member extends between the activating and clamping and sealing stations. The holding member overlies the back-up member for engaging the outer surface of the layers to hold the layers together in cooperation with the back-up member when the carton is located at either of the stations or between the stations. The holding member is slotted to permit the horn and pressure pad to engage the outer surface of the layers while the layers are held in the closed position between the holding member and back-up member.

The heatsealing member acts upon a lower wall of the flattened non-tensioned tubular foil, and without a counter pressure to the upper wall of the foil. The entire thickness of the lower wall is plasticized but only a portion of the thickness of the upper wall is plasticized. The assembly of heated lower wall and partly heated upper wall facing each other is passed through two pressure rolls, the roller surface contacting the surface which has not been in contact with the heat sealing member consisting of metal is cooled.
