    • Improved single screw extruders systems (40) are provided including a single screw extruder (42, 92) as well as an upstream preconditioner (44). The extruders (42, 92) include a single, internal, elongated, helically flighted, axially rotatable screw assembly (52) having one or more improved screw sections (74, 74a, 76). The screw sections (74, 74a, 76) include specially configured flighting (86) wherein adjacent flighting portions (86a, 86b) have smoothly arcuate surfaces (88) extending between the respective flighting portion peripheries (90a, 90b). This flighting design provides smooth, substantially surge-free operation while increasing SME and cook values. The preferred preconditioner (44) has independently controlled mixing shafts (106, 108) allowing the shafts (106, 108) to be rotated at different rotational speeds and/or directions.

    • The invention relates to an extrusion line for producing plastic profiles, preferably plastic pipes, comprising at least one extruder (1), one die (2), one calibration means (3) and further following devices (4, 5).There is provision here according to the invention for at least the die (2) to have at least one aperture (8), and for an extraction means (6) to be arranged in front of the die (2) as viewed in the extrusion direction (7), and for the die (2) to consist of a plurality of functional regions with separate melt channels.Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for increasing the cooling performance of an extrusion line for extruding a plastic profile, in particular a plastic pipe, which method comprises the following steps, a) melting of plastic in an extruder (1), b) shaping of a plastic strand and feeding of the plastic strand to a die (2), c) shaping of a plastic profile by means of the die (2), and d) calibrating and curing by means of cooling of the profile in a calibration means (3), the profile (9) being cooled in the interior in addition to the outer cooling in the calibration means (3). There is then provision here according to the invention for the air to be sucked through counter to the extrusion direction (7) by means of an extraction means (6) for the inner cooling of the profile (9), the plastic strand being divided in the die (2) into a plurality of part strands, and the temperature of the melt being reduced before exit from the die (2).

    • Spiral distributors for plastic melt are often used for manufacturing foils in blown film extrusion lines. They overlie several partial flows of melt on their way to the ring-shaped outlet nozzle. The spiral distributors are designed either as cylindrical or truncated cone-shaped axial spiral distributors or as plate-shaped radial spiral distributors. In an axial spiral distributor several spiral channels are disposed as a multiple screw. In the case of a radial spiral distributor, several spiral channels are disposed as multiple spirals.The invention proposes to provide the spiral channels with shortening sections in their backward area. As compared to a geometrical rule for a discontinuation of the spiral channels which is valid in a prior section of the spiral channels, this leads to a faster discontinuation of the spiral channels.The invention has observed that the design of the backward area of the spiral channels does not affect the good overlaying effect of the front part of the spiral channels. As compared to the customary embodiment, the channels are thus equipped with a less profiled backward end. This leads to a more cost-effective manufacture and to a lesser flow resistance.
