    • An article of protective athletic equipment with a plurality of compressible capsules connected by intra-array connectors to form an array of capsules. Each capsule has an inner volume that retains a volume of shear thickening fluid. The intra-array connectors can be tubular to place the inner volumes of adjacent capsules in fluidic communication. The shear thickening fluid can be a suspension of polyethylene glycol and a solute of solid particles. Arrays of capsules can be coupled to one or more layers of fabric and to to pre-existing or specially created articles of sports equipment, including helmets, caps, grips, insoles, and wraps. Plural arrays of capsules can be connected, such as by teeth or by engagement members and apertures. Intra-array connectors can have similar or varied open cross sectional areas, and capsules can be connected by different numbers of intra-array connectors to permit varied fluidic flow between capsules.

    • Orthopedic insole of the invention consists of a hollow foothold having flexible walls and containing granular filling. The upper surface of an orthopedic insole of the invention is typically molded to conform the anatomical features of a regular human foot. The granular filling contained in the lumen of the foothold and a rigid segment of its bottom wall provide for adapting the curvature angles of the top surface of the foothold to a specific pattern of the foot of a user. A user can typically make a selection from a variety of ready-made insoles having standard sizes which suit his needs. The adaptable orthopedic insoles of the invention are accommodated to common shoes and sandals, boots that are suitable for heavy work, walking, running, and or fashionable or mode shoes.

    • An improved sole or insole for providing puncture resistance in boots and other types of shoes includes multiple layers of a tightly woven, puncture resistant fabric, formed from high tensile strength synthetic or polymeric fibers, such as Kevlar®, a polyaramid. The layers of puncture resistant fabric generally are not bonded together or adhered together by adhesives or the like. The layers of puncture resistant fabric may be secured together along the outer peripheries thereof, or they may be secured within a pocket formed from a covering material, such as foam, or in a pocket formed between an inner and outer sole of the boot or shoe.

    • A weighted insole with a pair of flat weights encapsulated inside a flexible material which is formed into an insole for placement in a shoe. A first weight is encapsulated in front, and a second weight is encapsulated behind, the ball-of-the-foot area. The second weight additionally has cutouts at the arch and heel areas of the foot. These unweighted areas throughout their thickness include insole material which provides extra comfort and cushioning where the user typically places more weight on the foot. The front and back weighted construction additionally allows for flexibility of the insole at the ball area. A pattern of nodes is projected from the bottom of the insole to frictionally hold the insole in place in the shoe.
