    • A parachute riser buckle is provided on the parachute harness for a quick release of the parachute risers from the harness. Blocking means on the buckle body has a latch position in which it blocks removal of the riser connecting portion and an unlatched position for permitting removal of the riser connecting portion. A latch preventing member is provided which has a position in which it prevents the blocking means from returning to its latched position from its unlatched position except when the riser connecting portion is inserted in the buckle body to prevent incorrect and non-positive latching of the blocking means with the riser connecting portion. A handle is provided to rotate with the blocking means and has a surface which prevents the latch preventing member from moving to its latch preventing position except when the handle moves the blocking member to its unlatched position. In order to prevent accidental release of the buckle, a secondary locking member is provided which requires application of a force in a different direction than the force applied to the handle.

    • The present invention is a connector assembly mounted between two panels which are movable relative to each other. It includes a connector plug having a plug shell with an exterior flange, and a connector receptacle shell engageable with the plug shell and having an exterior receptacle flange. The receptacle flange has a multiplicity of openings each having an interior conical surface and an interior cylindrical surface. A multiplicity of self-alignment mounting assemblies is provided for mounting the receptacle flange to one panel. Each self-alignment mounting assembly includes an eyelet placed through the flange opening and mounted to the panel. The eyelet has an exterior conical surface engageable with the interior conical surface of each flange opening, and an exterior cylindrical surface with a reduced dimension for maintaining a clearance between the exterior cylindrical surface of the eyelet and the interior cylindrical surface of the flange opening. Each self-alignment mounting assembly further includes an alignment spring for providing cushioning between the receptacle flange and the eyelet. The connector assembly further includes an adjustable ejection assembly assembled in the receptacle shell for applying an ejection force on the plug shell. The multiplicity of self-alignment mounting assemblies provide proper connection between the connector plug and the connector receptacle during misaligned engagement or separation where the plug shell and the receptacle shell are linearly or angularly shifted relative to each other, and the adjustable ejection assembly provides proper ejection force between the plug shell and the receptacle shell for minimum impulse separation.

    • An axially oriented detent system interacting between a contact plug housing and a coaxial coupling ring. The coupling ring includes an inner peripheral rib that provides an axially outwardly facing shoulder. Detent springs or a detent washer with resilient detent elements engage the serrated face of a cover part. The cover part is secured to the sleeve so that the springs or elements move across the face during rotation of the coupling ring. The springs and elements have flexible arms that incline from a base apex to a distal free end. Movement of the serrations from the free end toward the apex creates a compression force that is absent when the serrations move in opposite direction. As such, the system creates a resistance to rotational decoupling that exceeds the resistance to coupling.

    • A threat field sensor has a hollow metal enclosure with imperforate side walls except for a single aperture that is small as compared with the wavelength of interfering electromagnetic energy. A coaxial conductor is located in the enclosure cavity and has separate sets of leads interconnected to each conductor end. Electric signals induced in the coaxial conductor and present at the conductor ends by the external electromagnetic fields passing through the enclosure aperture are converted to two corresponding light signals. The light signals are transmitted to remotely located processing apparatus by an optical fiber link where the light signals are converted once again to electric signal counterparts. Summing and differencing these electric signals provides two final signals representative of the electric and magnetic field, respectively. The electric field being normal to the coaxial conductor is uniquely defined by one such measurement; however, since the magnetic field is parallel to the sensor coaxial conductor, two orthogonal measurements must be taken to resolve the magnetic field.

    • A contact for an optical fiber has a ferrule onto one end of which a tip is releasably fitted. The end wall of the tip includes an opening of predetermined diameter within which a bare fiber of only very slightly less diameter is to located. The optical fiber with bare fiber end portion is received through the opposite end of the ferrule and the bare fiber end is located within the tip opening spaced inwardly from the tip end wall. The contact is received within a hollow tubular terminus body and extends out one end thereof, the remainder being retained within the terminus body by a flange on the ferrule. Additional parts terminate the fiber strength member externally of the contact and a spring provides axial resiliency to the contact. The tip outer end surface may have a concavity for receiving a spherical lens and a lens holder secures the lens against the tip end.

    • After removing a portion of the insulative covering from a cable leaving exposed the bare shield, a circumferential cut is made in the shield. A flanged, split-ring cylindrical metal contact is located underneath the braid with the flange extending through the cut. Shrink tape applied over the exposed shield serves to hold this shield and portions of the underlying contact together. A receiver tube located on the cable has an internal shoulder which fits against the contact flange and a gland nut threaded into the open end of the receiver tube has an internal end pressing against the contact flange to force it into contact with the receiver tube internal shoulder.
