    • The present invention provides a display device. The display device comprises a first substrate having formed thereon a pixel section (12) in which a plurality of pixels (11) are arranged in a matrix form and driving systems (13, 14) for driving to write pixel signals to the pixel section (12), a second substrate arranged to face the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer held between these substrates. As control systems (23, 24, 25) for controlling the driving systems (13, 14) are mounted as semiconductor chips on the first substrate in a COG method, reducing the thickness of the whole device is realized.

    • A liquid crystal display device enabling realization of greater thinness, smaller area, and narrower frame and an electronic device using the same are provided. For this purpose, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention comprises a first substrate, a pixel unit formed on the first substrate and having pixels arranged in a matrix, a second substrate arranged facing the first substrate, a liquid crystal composition held between the first substrate and the second substrate, and peripheral circuits formed on the first substrate for writing pixel signals to the pixel unit, at least part of the peripheral circuits of the above peripheral circuits being formed by thin film transistors on the first substrate, the remaining part of the peripheral circuits of the above peripheral circuits being formed by semiconductor chips, and the semiconductor chips being arranged on the first substrate so that at least part of the semiconductor chips overlap the regions of the peripheral circuits formed by the thin film transistors.

    • A laser annealing apparatus for fabricating a thin film semiconductor device integratedly formed with thin film transistors each of which includes a semiconducting thin film formed on the surface of an insulating substrate spread in longitudinal and lateral directions and then crystallized. A band-shaped pulsed laser beam irradiates the insulating substrate along the longitudinal direction. The laser beam is simultaneously moved in the lateral direction with a specific movement pitch while partially overlapping regions irradiated with the laser beam. The movement pitch of the laser beam is set at a value equal to an arrangement pitch of the thin film transistors or at a value larger by a factor of an integer than the arrangement pitch. The insulating substrate is previously positioned such that the boundaries of the partially overlapped irradiated regions are not overlapped on a channel region of any of the thin film transistors.

Each of the circuit sets selects one of the driven photoelectric conversion elements in accordance with the external control signal and a signal from one of the bits of the shift register.
