    • Disclosed is a novel catalyst for use in producing a carboxylic ester from an aldehyde, an alcohol and molecular oxygen, which comprises a carrier having supported thereon Pd and Pb and a Pd/Pb atomic ratio (S) of 3/0.7≦S≦ from 3/0.7 to 3/1.3, and which exhibits a maximum intensity peak at a diffraction angle (2&thgr;) in the range of from 38.55° to 38.70° in a power X-ray diffraction pattern thereof, wherein the peak is ascribed to the (111) crystal face diffraction of a Pd—Pb intermetallic compound. The catalyst can be efficiently produced by subjecting a catalyst precursor comprising a carrier having supported thereon a reducible Pd compound or a mixture of a reducible Pd compound and a reducible Pb component to a reduction treatment in the presence of lead ions and at least one compound selected from a lower fatty acid, an alkali metal salt and an alkaline earth metal salt, or by subjecting a catalyst prepared by a conventional method, which comprises a carrier having supported thereon Pd or a mixture of Pd and Pb, to an activation treatment. By using the catalyst, the desired carboxylic ester can be produced with high selectivity, while suppressing the formation of by-products, even under high temperature and high aldehyde concentration conditions. Further, in the continuous production of a carboxylic ester using the catalyst, stabilization of the catalyst can be effectively performed, so that a desired carboxylic ester can be stably produced with high efficiency and in high yield for a prolonged period of time.

    • According to one embodiment, a video processor plays back streaming data while receiving the streaming data via wireless communication from a server which simultaneously transmits the same streaming data to a plurality of devices in a group. The video processor includes a wireless communication module, a playback module, a monitor, and a controller. The wireless communication module has power saving mode in which wireless communication function is turned on/off at predetermined intervals, and performs wireless communication while the wireless communication function is ON. The playback module performs processing to participate in the group, and plays back streaming data from the server while receiving the streaming data when the video processor participates in the group. The monitor monitors the processing performed by the playback module to participate in the group. The controller cancels the power saving mode when the monitor detects that the processing is performed to participate in the group.

    • A pulse light source section outputs a plurality of pulse light according to the exposure timing of a retina imaging device. A retina illumination system illuminates the retina of an eye under measurement with the pulse light. A wavefront compensation system illuminates the eye and measures aberrations from a light reflected from the eye. The wavefront compensation system uses a wavefront compensation device and other components to compensate to cancel out measured aberrations. A retina imaging device receives a light which was reflected from the retina and of which the aberrations have been compensated for. A retina observation system forms an image of the retina on the retina imaging device with a light which was reflected and compensated. With the plurality of pulse light output from the pulse light source section, a plurality of consecutive retina images are obtained.

    • Horizontal and vertical scanning mirrors for scanning over a large angle, and horizontal and vertical compact scanning mirrors for scanning over a small angle are disposed at pupil-conjugated positions. Light is emitted from a light source to a retina, and reflected light from a broad range of the retina is accumulated by a photodetector. The accumulated light is constructed as a low-magnification retinal image by an image constructing processor. A position for picking up a high-magnification image is indicated on the basis of the constructed low-magnification retinal image. The compact scanning mirrors are rotated so that a high-magnification retinal image is achieved at the indicated pickup position. The photodetector accumulates the reflection light from the retina, and constructs the high-magnification retinal image at the pickup position indicated by the image constructing processor.

    • A first wavelength for measurement is selected from among a plurality of wavelengths. Aberrations at the first wavelength are measured with a wavefront-measurement light source having the first wavelength. A compensation optical section performs compensation so as to cancel out the measured aberrations. After the compensation, a retinal image is obtained from a retina imaging device using a retina illumination light source having the same wavelength as the wavefront-measurement light source. During image-data transfer from the retina imaging device, aberrations at a second wavelength are measured using another wavefront-measurement light source having the second wavelength. The compensation optical section performs compensation so as to cancel out the measured aberrations. After the compensation, a retinal image is obtained using another retina illumination light source having the same wavelength as the another wavefront-measurement light source. A difference image is obtained from the retinal images, and displayed or stored.
