摘要： The image data are transmitted to an external device connected to the network in conjunction with a paper jam, predetermined paper supply condition such as a paper empty condition, or other abnormal condition. In this way jobs are not erased unbeknownst to an operator when power is automatically shut OFF due to lack of operation for a predetermined time following a print operation stoppage, or when power is shut OFF in conjunction with the correction of a paper jam or other abnormal condition. When the cause of the image data transmission has been corrected or when power is restored to the digital copier, the image data previously transmitted to an external device on the network are returned to the digital copier. In this way printing can be easily restarted by executing a restart continuous operation process without requiring an operator to again input image data in order to restart printing.

摘要： An electrophotographic image forming apparatus for forming a color toner image by a developing device and fixing the toner image by a fixing device including top and bottom rollers. When OHP mode for forming images on transparency sheets is selected, the time required for fixing the toner image is prolonged so as to assure the transparency of the image fixed to a recording member. That is, if the size of the transparency sheet is larger than a predetermined value, the transparency sheet is sent to a returning path which returns the recording member discharged from the fixing device to the fixing device again, and if the size of the transparency sheet is smaller than the predetermined value, the fixing device is operated more slowly than a case of forming images on non-transparency sheets. Further, when the OHP mode is selected, heating power is supplied to both top and bottom fixing rollers, and when the OHP mode is not selected, the heating power is supplied to the top fixing roller only.

In the image forming apparatus according to the present invention, the temperature of the fixing unit is controlled to be kept at the first set point by the first temperature control structure in normal operation, and when the temperature of the fixing unit comes to reach the second set point as a result of the first temperature control structure getting out of order, the temperature of the fixing unit is controlled to be kept at the second set point by the second temperature control structure. Consequently, the temperature of the fixing unit can be controlled to be kept within a desired range even when the first temperature control means gets out of order. As a result, it is possible not only to prevent thermal damages of parts caused by temperature rise at the fixing unit, but also to aim at improving the quality of prints as well as carrying out power saving.
