    • A vane type compressor comprising a main housing with a cylinder, a front side plate covering one end of the cylinder, a front housing over the front side plate for forming a suction chamber, and a rotor inserted in the cylinder with a rotatable drive shaft extending through bosses of the front side plate and the front housing. A seal is arranged in the boss of the housing, and a check valve is arranged in the front housing at the inlet thereof. To guide the fluid in the suction chamber to the seal, to improve the lubrication of the seal, a pair of guide walls are provided on opposite sides of the check valve and between the check valve and the suction ports to constitute a passage directed to the seal. Also, a pair of ribs is extended from the front side plate toward the seal to constitute a gap, the gap overlapping the passage.

    • An image reader for digitally reading an image on an original document by causing at least two aligned CCDs to commonly read an overlapping portion of the image which corresponds to a joint portion of the CCDs and by cancelling pixel data read by one of the CCDs. A first CCD is mounted on a base plate. A second CCD is fixed in place on one or free end portion of a support plate the other end of which is rigidly connected to the base plate. The base plate and the support plate are different from each other in the coefficient of thermal expansion. In order to compensate for a change in the ratio of an overlapping portion of the image due to an expansion or a contraction of the base plate which is caused by a temperature variation, a predetermined relationship is set up between the positions of the first and second CCDs and that of the support plate relative to the base plate and the coefficients of thermal expansion of the base plate and support plate. Temperatures of the base plate are sensed so that an expansion or a contraction of the base plate is computed based on the sensed temperature, thereby determining a deviation of the overlapping portion. Data outputted by the CCDs are processed in response to the determined deviation.

    • A tone generator includes a plurality of tone generation channels each comprising one or more operation channels. One operation channel performs basic operation of a tone signal computing operation (e.g., FM or AM) and a tone signal is generated by using one or more operation channels for one tone generation channel. Tone generation channels in the tone generator are established according to a selected performance mode. In a first mode, the operation channels are divided into N groups and N tone generation channels are established in correspondence to the respective operation channel groups. In a second mode, the operation channels are divided into M groups and M tone generation channels are established in correspondence to the respective operation channel groups wherein N is a different number from M. Tone generation channels of the number required according to the selected performance mode can be established by efficiently utilizing the operation channels of a limited number.

    • An original to be copied is placed in a given position. An exposure optics including a movable part is employed to focus an optical image of slitwise segment of the original on a photosensitive member. The photosensitive member moves in a given direction and at a given speed throughout the exposure. The location where the image of slitwise segment of the original is focused moves through the space of the arrangement at a given speed and in a direction opposite from the direction of movement of the photosensitive member throughout the exposure. Consequently, the location corresponding to the initiation of the exposure is situated downstream as viewed in the direction of movement of the surface of the photosensitive member while the location corresponding to the end of the exposure is situated upstream as viewed in the same direction. Upon termination of the exposure, the photosensitive member continues its movement which is the same as during the exposure while the movable part of the exposure optics returns to its start position.
