    • A control valve includes an accommodation cylinder, a coil, a stator, a plunger, and a valve body. Electromagnetic force is generated between the stator and the plunger and the plunger moves relative to the stator. The valve body adjusts the opening degree of a valve hole. A flat surface and a peripheral wall are formed in an end of the stator. The peripheral wall has a tapered cross-section with an inclined inner surface. The inclined inner surface and the flat surface define a recess. The plunger has a frustum portion. The frustum portion includes a flat distal surface and an annular inclined surface. The taper angle of the peripheral wall is equal to or less than twenty degrees. The diameter of the flat distal surface of the frustum portion is equal to or greater than eighty percent of the largest diameter of the annular inclined surface.

    • A piston compressor having cylinder blocks, each defining cylinder bores in which a piston is axially reciprocally arranged. Front and rear housings are connected to the cylinder blocks via valve port plates, so that compression chambers are formed between the valve port plates and the cylinder blocks and inlet and outlet chambers are formed between the valve port plates. The valve port plates form inlet and outlet ports for each of the compression chambers and inlet valves and outlet valves formed as thin resilient web members are provided for the inlet and outlet ports, respectively, to control the feeding and discharge of the gas, respectively. The valve port plates having, on the surfaces thereof facing the outlet valve around the inlet ports, a roughened area having a surface roughness value R.sub.z of between 10 to 25 .mu.m and an average spacing value L of between to 50 to 100 .mu.m.

A movable cover member juxtaposed against the partition member from the pressure receiving chamber side to cover a communicating hole of the partition member. An outside peripheral edge of the movable cover member is held in intimate contact against the partition member through urging force of an elastic retainer portion. Pressure of both chambers will acts on both faces of a movable rubber film, thereby constituting a pressure fluctuation absorbing mechanism. The outside peripheral edge of the movable cover member is separated from the partition member in opposition to the urging force by negative pressure in the pressure receiving chamber for providing a shunting mechanism for preventing excessive negative pressure in the pressure receiving chamber.
