    • A magneto-optical recording medium having a substrate and magneto-optical recording film. The substrate is formed from a material having light transmittivity. One surface of the substrate is provided with a magneto-optical recording film. When light having a wavelength of .lambda. is irradiated on the surface of the substrate having the magneto-optical recording film, grooves are formed in film which have an optical depth with a lower limit of .lambda./8 and an upper limit of .lambda./4 or less. The magneto-optical recording film is formed so that the Kerr ellipticity thereof becomes 0.degree.. A head unit for the magneto-optical recording medium has an optical-axis device for compensating the Kerr ellipticity of the magneto-optical recording medium. The optical axis device is in an optical path between an object lens for focusing a light beam emitted from a light source on the magneto-optical recording film and a polarization beam splitter.

    • An optical pickup apparatus for irradiating a light beam on an optical recording medium for recording or reproduction, including a light source, an objective lens, a nonpolarization beam splitter, a photodetector, and a 1/4 wavelength plate. The objective lens focuses the light beam radiated from the light source on to the recording layer of the optical recording medium. The nonpolarization beam splitter is disposed between the objective lens and the light source and separates the light beam emitted from the light source and the light beam reflected by the recording layer of the optical recording medium. The photodetector receives the beam of light reflected by the recording layer of the optical recording medium which has been separated by the nonpolarization beam splitter and deflected 90.degree. in optical path. The 1/4 wavelength plate is disposed on the path of emission of the light beam emitted from the light source between the nonpolarization beam splitter and the optical recording medium.

    • The present invention is, in an optical head tracking error detecting apparatus in which a laser beam from a semiconductor laser element (1) is introduced into a diffraction grating (3), a 0-order beam and .+-.1st-order beams emitted from the diffraction grating (3) are introduced through a beam splitter (4) to an objective lens (5), a 0-order beam and .+-.1st-order beams of converged beams which are introduced into an optical recording medium (6) and reflected on the optical recording medium (6) are passed through the objective lens (5), reflected on the reflection surface of the beam splitter (4), and then introduced into a photodetector (7), a pair of photo-detection outputs corresponding to said .+-.1st order beams are obtained from the photodetector (7) and on the basis of the difference between the pair of photo-detection outputs, there is generated a tracking error signal corresponding to the tracking state of the 0-order beam on the optical recording medium (6), to provide a pair of positive lenses (9) and (10) between the semiconductor laser element (1) and the diffraction grating (3) and a light shielding member (11) between the pair of positive lenses (9) and (10) to pass therethrough a central beam of the central beam and both side beams which are reflected on the optical recording medium (6), passed through the objective lens (5), the beam splitter (4) and the diffration grating (3) and directed to the semiconductor laser element (1) but to shield the both side beams, whereby to generate a tracking error signal which is not changed by the change of a tangential skew angle of the 0-order beam of an optical head OH relative to the optical recording medium (6).

    • According to one embodiment, a semiconductor memory device includes: a substrate; a stacked body including a plurality of electrode layers and a plurality of insulating layers, both of them being alternately stacked on the substrate; a cap film provided in contact with the electrode layer within a hole formed to penetrate the stacked body; an insulating film provided on a side wall of the cap film and including a charge accumulation film; and a channel body provided on a side wall of the insulating film. The cap film includes a protrusion portion protruding toward the insulating film. In the cap film, a film thickness of a portion where the protrusion portion is provided in a direction in which the protrusion portion protrudes is larger than a film thickness of the other portions where the protrusion portion is not provided.

    • A hologram recording/reproducing device includes a recording/reproducing optical unit performing recording and reproducing operations on a hologram recording/reproducing medium. The optical unit includes a laser light source emitting laser light; a spatial-light modulator generating signal light and reference light from the laser light, the signal light and reference light having a common light path; a phase mask disposed near the modulator or in a conjugate plane of the modulator and transmitting at least the reference light; and an objective lens including a first lens portion and a second lens portion. The first lens portion is disposed at an inner peripheral portion of the objective lens and serves as a Fourier transformation lens focusing the signal light to a predetermined point. The second lens portion is disposed at an outer peripheral portion of the objective lens and has focuses continuously or discretely disposed in an optical-axis direction of the objective lens and at portions in the medium near the predetermined point.
