    • An electrophoretic display device includes M×N numbers (M, and N are integers more than two) of pixels. The M×N numbers of pixels include M numbers of pixel groups having N numbers of pixels. Further, an image on the electrophoretic display device is displayed by making some of the M×N numbers of pixels switched at least from a bright display to a dark display, and vice versa. A period for displaying one piece of an image on the electrophoretic display is defined as period for forming an image and a period for introducing an image signal to each of the M×N numbers of pixels with sequentially selecting each of the pixels is defined as a frame period. Then, the time for forming an image includes a plurality of frame periods (a numbers of L: L is integers more than two.)

    • The present invention provides: a microcapsule composition for electrophoretic displays; a production process for the microcapsule composition for the electrophoretic displays; a production process for a sheet for the electrophoretic displays; and a handling method for microcapsules for the electrophoretic displays; wherein the microcapsule composition contains microcapsules and, when used for the electrophoretic displays, can make them as excellent as conventional in various performances (e.g. longtime stability of displaying, respondability of displaying, contrast, and number of times of display rewritability) and, particularly above all, can make the electrophoretic displays exhibit a very high performance as to the contrast. The present invention composition is a composition used for preparation of a coating liquid and comprises an aqueous medium and microcapsules for the electrophoretic displays, wherein the microcapsules include a shell and a dispersion that is capsuled in the shell, wherein the dispersion includes a solvent and electrophoretic fine particles that are dispersed in the solvent; with the composition being characterized by: being a product as obtained without involving the step of drying the microcapsules; and having a microcapsule content of 30 to 80 weight %.

    • The present invention is a method in which microcapsules are placed at desired locations selectively accurately and easily to produce a high accuracy electrophoretic display panel. In the production method of a display panel of the present invention, the microcapsules are uniformly coated onto a substrate, on which electrodes is formed by using an optical hardening resin as a binder material. Next, the binder material is hardened by selectively irradiating a light beam to the only locations desired for placing the microcapsules by using a photomask. The binder material of portions not hardened is removed by washing in water. Thus, the microcapsules can be selectively and accurately placed at the only desired positions. A color electrophoretic display panel, in which each microcapsule of three primary colors is placed in a predetermined arrangement, can be produced by sequentially performing the processes for the three types of microcapsules corresponding to three primary colors.
