    • Methods and assemblies are described for displaying interchangeable graphics sheets on a display face of a merchandise cabinet such as a vending machine. The interchangeable sheets are stored on spool assemblies disposed within the cabinet and may be either manually or automatically manipulated in order to selectively register different graphics sheets within the display face of the vending machine. In a first embodiment, the graphics sheets have adhesive areas thereon in order to attach an old graphic sheet to a new graphic sheet to unwind the new graphic sheet from the spool assembly and position it into the display field on the face of the vending machine. The old graphics sheet functions as a leader for the new graphics sheet. In a second embodiment, the graphics sheets are provided with tear-off flexible leaders which are utilized to unwind the sheets from the storage spool assemblies and to position the graphics sheet into registry with the display fields on the face of the vending machine. In a third embodiment, an elongated graphics sheet having groups of graphic regions spaced thereon is wound onto a pair of spaced spool assemblies on opposite sides of the display field. A drive mechanism for rotating the spools is provided to selectively position selected ones of the groups of graphics into registry with the display field. A controller for selectively activating the drive mechanism to position the selected groups of graphics in the display field is provided and may include a timer for automatically activating the drive mechanism to change the groups of graphics or a suitable remote control and detector combination in order to selectively change the graphics by remote command signals.

    • A motorless continuous carbonator including a double acting piston type water pump driven by a double acting piston type gas pump actuator assembly powered by the carbonating gas. A connecting rod couples the pump piston with the actuator piston and includes means for operating a toggle switch mechanism for controlling a pair of solenoid valves respectively connected to the pump and actuator assembly for controlling the flow of water and carbonating gas, typically CO.sup.2, therefrom and thus deliver still water and CO.sup.2 to a semi-permeable membrane carbonator. The CO.sup.2 gas which initially provides the pumping force is subsequently fed to the carbonator where it is absorbed by the still water to form carbonated water which is then fed to a dispensing unit which may be either a post-mix dispenser utilized either on earth or in a microgravity environment.

    • A system for dispensing liquid from a relatively large laminated paperboard container or carton from an outward facing compartment in a housing. The carton, opened by cutting off one of the corners, is inserted in an upright position in a frame so that the open corner is located within a pinch mechanism including mutually perpendicular pairs of plates having opposing edges adapted to contact opposite walls of the open corner of the carton, with the pairs of plates being interconnected so that as one pair of edges move toward one another, the other pair of edges move away from each other, and vice versa, and accordingly operate to open and close the carton during a dispensing operation.

    • A carbonator system consisting of a holding tank divided into an upper and lower chamber may be used on earth or in the microgravity conditions of outer space. A first embodiment involves first introducing water and then carbon dioxide into the lower chamber of the holding tank. Pressure is then exerted on a moveable piston in this tank to cause the piston to reduce the volume of the lower chamber housing the carbon dioxide and water. This action plus the action of an agitator, drives the carbon dioxide into solution. An alternative embodiment is disclosed wherein carbon dioxide is first introduced into the lower chamber of the holding tank. Water is next introduced into this lower chamber such that it is completely filled with both water and carbon dioxide. While the water is being introduced, an agitator is used to aid mixing of this water and carbon dioxide to form carbonated water. The agitator may consist of a bar contained within the lower chamber of the holding tank. Circumferentially surrounding the holding tank, a series of electro-magnetic coils are provided. These coils influence the agitator bar via magnetic force to cause rotation of this bar about a longitudinal axis of the holding tank. This agitator may also be reciprocated along this longitudinal axis. A control system is also provided for operating the carbonator. This control system includes a microcontroller, piston position sensors, controllers for various valves and controls for the agitator.
