    • An improved fuel injector system comprising a nozzle tip which defines a pressure control chamber, an injection chamber, and at least one fuel injection orifice. The nozzle tip further includes a movable direct-operated check operable to selectively control fluid communication between the injection chamber and the fuel injection orifice. The improvement includes a hilt reciprocally movable within the injection chamber and being of a construction to define a lower chamber and an upper chamber. The improvement further includes a high pressure fuel passage communicating high pressure fuel to the lower chamber. The present invention provides reduced stresses on the nozzle tip as the check engages the check seat while not adversely affecting the performance of the fuel injector. This results in lower tip wear and improved life of the fuel injector.

    • A fuel control member of an internal combustion engine is operative to control the flow of fuel to the engine and is operatively connected to an element of a speed responsive governor which is adapted to urge the fuel control member towad an increased fuel position when the load on the engine is increased. A device is provided for limiting movement of the fuel control member toward the increased fuel direction establishing a maximum fuel flow position of the fuel control member. A speed sensitive flyweight arrangement is connected to the element of the governor for moving it and the fuel control member in a decreased fuel flow direction for reducing the amount of fuel delivered to the engine when the engine speed decreases below a predetermined speed due to a load thereon.

    • A dual fuel injector includes a liquid needle valve member guided to move in and out of contact with a first valve seat positioned between a liquid nozzle chamber and a liquid nozzle outlet set. A gas needle valve member is guided to move in and out of contact with a second valve seat positioned between a gas nozzle chamber and a gas nozzle outlet set. A hydraulic lock seal for inhibiting migration of gas fuel from the gas nozzle chamber into the first fuel includes an annular volume surrounding a guide segment of the gas needle valve member. The annular volume is fluidly connected to the liquid nozzle volume by a seal passage. A check valve positioned in the seal passage may close when a gas fuel supply is exhausted and an engine utilizing the dual fuel injector operates in a limp home single fueling mode.

    • The present invention relates generally to variable discharge pumps, and specifically pumps used in fuel injection systems. Typically, such pumps include a dedicated spill control valve for each pumping plunger, that also doubles as an avenue for refilling the pumping chambers. This double duty results in compromise in the design of the spill control valve to operate effectively in both spill and fill modes. The present invention addresses these issues by utilizing a shuttle valve member to allow the spill function and the fill function to be addressed in separate passageways while also allowing a pair of plungers to share a common spill control valve. The present invention find particular application in pumps used to supply high pressure fluid to common rails for fuel injection systems.
