    • Extending ladders and associated manufacturing methods are disclosed. A ladder in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention comprises a plurality of rung units, each rung unit including a left column, a right column, and a rung extending between the left column and the right column. The ladder may include a first column assembly including a first column and a ring coupled to the first column proximate a distal end thereof, and a second column assembly including a second column and a sleeve coupled to the second column proximate a proximal end thereof. The second column being at least partially disposed within a lumen defined by an internal surface of the first column. The sleeve includes an external guiding surface for contacting the internal surface of the first column and the ring includes an internal guiding surface for contacting an exterior surface of the second column.

    • A quick release ladder leveler attachment system. So that a leveler may be mounted or released from the rails of a ladder quickly and without requiring the use of tools, a leveler attachment structure is added to the lower outer surface of the ladder rails. It may be integrated with the ladder rails or attached to ladder rails with bolts or rivets. The attachment structures include surfaces that engagingly mate with mounting structures on the leveler. The attachment and mating structures may be a keyhole slot and a knob. A spring catch may retain the leveler in place and a locking pin may be added to ensure safety.

    • A mobile scaffold (10) having bi-axially rotatable casters (22-28) and including brake assemblies (30 and 32) associated with the casters (22-28) is disclosed. The inventive brake assemblies (30,32) enable an elevated worker to selectively control the mobility of the scaffold (10) and each broadly includes shiftable brake stop subassemblies (74 and 76), a brake housing (72) adjustably connected to a respective scaffold frame (12,14) and shiftably connected to the brake stop subassemblies (74,76), and an actuator (78) adjustably connected to the housing (72) and configured to shift the brake stop subassemblies (74,76) into and out of braking positions. When in the braking position, the brake stop subassemblies (74,76) prevent the respective casters (22-28) from rotating about both axes. The actuator includes cables (180,182) for interconnecting brake stop subassembly and the handle in one embodiment and a plunger (308,406) in other embodiments. Preferred alternative embodiments are disclosed that include pivotal linkage subassemblies (328,430) for intercommunicating the plunger and the brake stops.

    • A first embodiment of a safety rail for a folding scaffolding cart comprises a single hollow metal tube having two longitudinal ends and shaped to have three smooth 90 degree bends to fit diagonal posts of a folding scaffold. The portable scaffolding cart is a folding platform supported by a rectangular framework having four vertical tube supports with one support tube at each corner. Each support tube has lockable wheels. The vertical supports extend above the platform. The safety rail of the platform connects in an overlapping arrangement to the supports. Alternatively, self-tapping screw fasteners can secure the safety rail. The safety rail is a single shaped tube. Three smooth 90 degree bends in the safety rail allow it to extend upward from a first support, around the perimeter of the platform and back down to a diagonal second support. The safety rail is circular in cross-section, and has a slightly larger diameter than the diameter of the scaffold posts such that each longitudinal end is slotted and sleeved over the first and second diagonal scaffold supports and optionally secured by fasteners. A second embodiment of a safety rail is U-shaped to fit the rear posts of the folding scaffold cart.

    • An adjustable stepladder is provided including a first set of rails, having a plurality of rungs coupled therebetween, and a second set of rails, also having a plurality of rungs disposed therebetween, slidably coupled with the first set of rails. A single support leg is hingedly coupled with one set of rails and may include a telescoping structure. The support leg may include a base having a plurality of feet wherein the base is integrally formed with a structural member of the support leg. In another embodiment, a removable base may be coupled to a structural member of the support leg such that differently configured bases may be attached to the support leg. The stepladder may, thus be adjustable in terms of height as well as in terms of a support base which will be in contact with the ground or other supporting surface when the ladder is in use.
