    • Magneto-optic media and system optimization including a set of optimized magneto-optic media for use in a magneto-optic recording and readout system employing an incident readout light beam of a given fixed power, P.sub.o. The beam is delivered in a linearly polarized state to the magneto-optic media and the magneto-optic radiation received from the media is detectable by the system. Each member of the set of media comprises a reflective layer having a predetermined thickness, a first transparent layer overlying the reflecting layer and having a predetermined thickness and refractive index and a second light transmissive layer having a predetermined thickness and exhibiting absorptivity at the wavelength of said incident readout light beam and having magneto-optic conversivity and perpendicular anisotropy. Members of the set of optimized magneto-optic media may further included a third transparent layer overlaying the second transmissive layer and having a predetermined thickness and refractive index. The combination of these layers exhibit antireflectivity and the incident light absorbed in the media is captured in the second light transmissive layer and the predetermined layer thicknesses and refractive index are chosen to maximize signal to noise ratio (SNR) according to the relationship ##EQU1## where r.sub.x represents the reflected component of the linearly polarized incident beam r.sub.y represents the reflected magneto-optically induced component in an orthogonal direction, a.sub.i is the i.sup.th element of the set }a.sub.i }0 that represents variable parameters of the chosen readout system, N is the number of elements in the set {a.sub.i } and f is a function which is determined by the chosen readout system.

    • A standalone duplication system with network connection has a casing, multiple recording devices, a control module, a bridge unit, a storage device and a network module, wherein the bridge unit connects between the control module, the storage device and the network module. When the bridge unit confirms that the control module has disconnected from the storage device and the network module receives a data transfer command, the storage device can receive data via the network module and store data for duplication. Therefore, the standalone duplication system is capable of receiving data from different computers over a network without using a high-end central processing unit (CPU). The standalone duplication system need not be moved to different places and connected to and disconnected from different personal computers again and again. Users operate their own personal computers to send required data to the standalone duplication system via the network.

    • The present invention provides a way to use flash memory to keep backup copies of the recently modified data. The recently modified data is stored on a local hard drive and replicated (usually with versions) on a local flash drive when the network connectivity does not exist or not sufficient. As soon as the network connectivity is established the accumulated data is sent to the remote CDP server and the whole space of the flash drive can be reused again. As a result, the data is always replicated: one data copy is stored on the hard drive and the other copy is stored (usually with versions) either on a remote server or a local flash drive. Therefore, the combination of the data on the CDP server and the flash drive can be used to reconstruct the data stored on the hard drive.

    • Methods and systems are provided for the automatic selection of a source drive and a destination drive when an operation to record content is performed. The method includes an evaluation of all removable media devices detected in the computing system, and the classification of the detected devices. All removable media detected in the computing system is also evaluated, and evaluation of a last used source drive and a last used destination drive is performed. When recording content to removable media, an algorithm is triggered to evaluate detected devices, evaluate detected media, and intelligently select an appropriate source drive and destination drive for the recording operation. The intelligent selection is performed automatically.
