    • A synchronizing arrangement in a planetary gear has an axially movable ring gear which for various gearchange positions can be coupled to either of two coupling rings, situated on their respective sides of the planetary gear, via synchronizing rings which belong to these coupling rings, are capable of limited rotation relative to the ring gear and have external locking teeth to prevent gear engagement before synchronization is achieved. The ring gear is provided with two grooves which run round its inside and each accommodates a ring-shaped locking device for transferring axial force to the respective synchronizing ring at the time of gear engagement. The respective locking device is also situated in an external groove in the relating synchronizing ring and can be compressed in the radial direction.

    • A gear knocking sound preventing device for a transmission having a rotatable main shaft and a forward stage low speed shift shaft, a forward stage high speed shift shaft, and a forward stage maximum speed and reverse shift shaft. These latter three shift shafts are selectively axially movable by actuation of a shift and select lever mounted on a shift and select shaft. A gear knocking sound preventing device is provided and includes a cam mechanism having a first cam disposed on the shift and select shaft, and a second cam disposed on the forward stage low speed shift shaft so as to be engagable and disengagable with the first cam. The first cam is activated by rotation of the shift and select shaft and is brought into engagement with the second cam during reverse shifting so that the forward stage low speed shift shaft is moved slightly axially to activate a forward stage synchronous meshing mechanism to thereby stop the rotation of the main shaft of the transmission.

    • A gear-change apparatus for a vehicle transmission having multiple forward speed gear trains and one reverse gear train that is established by a slide meshing action of a reverse idler gear. A cam mechanism between the reverse gear shift fork and one of the forward gear shift forks causes that forward gear shift fork to move a small stroke toward gear engagement to engage the synchronizing mechanism to stop or reduce inertial rotation of components within the transmission without actually causing engagement of that forward gear, which function occurs just prior to actual engagement of the reverse gear train. A recess in the interlocking plate permits the small stroke of movement of the forward shift fork. In one embodiment the cam mechanism includes a one-way device to eliminate any substantial resistance to shifting the apparatus out of reverse gear.

    • A gear-shift mechanism for a transmission unit which includes a fork shaft slidably supported in a housing assembly which is selectively shifted from its neutral position to forward and reverse positions, a detent mechanism for selectively retaining the fork shaft in its neutral and shifted positions, a shift head member slidable on the fork shaft, a one-way engagement mechanism for effecting the engagement between the shift head member and the fork shaft during axial displacement of the fork shaft toward and away from its reverse position, and a shift arm member pivotably mounted to the inner wall structure of the housing assembly and linked with the shift head member to retain an idler gear in its neutral position and engage the same with driving and driven gears. The detent mechanism includes a first holder member having a slot in its upper portion and a shaft fixed to the upper side portion of the first holder member and a second holder member fitted into the first holder member. The head portion of the shaft fixed to the first holder member can be engaged with another head portion provided at a select return spring holder. The second holder member retains one of synchronizers in a neutral position when shifted to a reverse speed.

    • A transmission synchronizer includes a strut and blocker ring engagement system wherein the strut is retained by the blocker rings in all of its axial positions against centrifugal and spring forces on the strut. The slots in each blocker ring are fully enclosed, and thus are disposed for total containment of the opposed ends of the struts. In a preferred embodiment the strut includes a pair of opposed axially spaced, radially extending bearing surfaces, each disposed for axially bearing against one side of a blocker ring, wherein each of the bearing surfaces is distinct from the slot engaging ends of the strut. Thus each bearing surface defines an inwardly stepped wall relative to one of the slot engaging ends of the strut.
