    • A hydropneumatic damping device particularly for spring legs of automotive vehicles comprises an inner cylinder, an outer container, a central cavity within the inner cylinder, an annular cavity between the inner cylinder and the outer container, a piston rod with a piston unit, venting passage means between the central cavity and the annular cavity extending across a cavity-closing unit and check valve means associated to said venting passage means. The check valve means comprises an annular check valve member in frictional sliding engagement with the piston rod for axial movement with the piston rod towards a sealing position during inward movement of the piston rod and towards an opening position during the outward movement of the piston rod. First and second abutment means are provided for defining the sealing and the opening position of the annular check valve member, respectively. The second abutment means are axially fixed with respect to the cavity-closing unit by supporting means separated from the cavity-closing unit and fixed with respect to the respective end of the container.

    • A piston slides in a fluid-filled piston chamber for damping or snubbing the movement of an object connected thereto. Attached to the piston is a piston rod which is disposed in the main fluid supply reservoir located below the piston chamber, at the lowest point in the apparatus. As the piston moves, the associated movement of this rod in the reservoir varies its displacement therein, thereby displacing fluid into a vented secondary reservoir which is located above the piston chamber, at the highest point in the damper apparatus. Any leakage from the piston chamber collects in the reservoirs. Both reservoirs are in fluid supply connection with the piston chamber so that piston movement causes fluid to flow into the chamber from the reservoirs so as to keep the chamber completely filled with fluid at all times. Both reservoirs supply fluid to the piston rod seals, which are thereby always immersed in fluid.

    • A hydraulic shock absorber of the type including a tubular main body having of an inner tube containing oil and slidably receiving a piston and an outer tube surrounding the inner tube to define around the inner tube an annular reservoir chamber containing therein pressurized gas in the upper portion and oil in the lower portion. A rod guide closes the upper end of the inner tube, and a piston rod is secured to the piston and slidably extends through the rod guide and through a seal member closing the upper end of the main body. A spring is disposed between the rod guide and the seal member and acts on the seal member through an annular retainer to urge the seal member against the inner surface of the main body, wherein, there are mounted on the annular retainer an annular valve member having a lip portion for engaging with the rod guide to prevent fluid flow from the upper portion of the reservoir chamber to the interior of the inner tube through a clearance between the rod guide and the piston rod but allowing fluid flow in the opposite direction. An annular valve member is provided having a lip portion engaging with the inner surface of the main body to prevent fluid flow from the interior of the main body to the outside of the main body along the inner surface of the main body but allowing fluid flow in the opposite direction.

    • A buffer includes an actuation cylinder filled with oil, a piston rod extending through the upper end of the cylinder for vertical movement in the cylinder, a piston provided at the lower end of the piston rod in sliding contact with the inner wall of the cylinder and having a damping action producing mechanism. The piston divides the interior of the cylinder into upper and lower chambers. An outer cylinder is disposed about the cylinder in a peripherally spaced relationship therewith to define a reservoir chamber therebetween, the upper portion of the reservoir chamber being filled with gas and the lower portion of the reservoir chamber being filled with oil. A passage communicates the lower oil filled portion of the reservoir chamber with the lower chamber of the cylinder. A passage communicates the upper gas filled portion of the reservoir chamber with the upper chamber of the cylinder through the outer periphery of the piston rod. A valve is provided in the passage communicating the upper chamber of the cylinder with the gas filled portion of the reservoir chamber for only allowing the flow of oil from the upper chamber of the cylinder to the reservoir chamber. The valve includes a first seal for sealable engagement with a rod guide along which the piston rod is guided. The valve further includes a second seal for sealing the interior of the buffer.

The interior of the pressure cylinder is provided with a generally helically shaped baffle arrangement which is compressible axially within the cylinder in response to reciprocal movement of ths piston therein and functions to prevent undersirable foaming or aeration of the hydraulic fluid during operation of the shock absorber.
