    • A traction winch for a cable or the like includes a winch frame, at least two sheave assemblies each having at least a first sheave and a second sheave, each sheave having a single circumferential friction surface for the cable. The winch further includes at least two rotatable driveshafts, journalled in the winch frame in a side-by-side arrangement, each drive shaft being associated with a sheave assembly, and at least one motor for driving the driveshafts. The winch includes a differential assembly being provided between each driveshaft and sheave assembly so as to allow for different rotational speeds of the sheaves during operation of the traction winch due to cable elongation.

    • A clutch device for an electric winch includes a ring gear that is settled in a gear box and is in communication with a gear mechanism of the electric winch. A plurality of braking recesses are provided on the outer periphery surface of the ring gear. A detachable clutch sleeve is fixed in a braking port defined in the gear box and includes a T-shaped clutch lever. A clutch handle is provided on the sleeve. The inner surface of the clutch handle and the top surface of the clutch sleeve are cam faces formed by double tapered faces. A rotating-positioning mechanism, which can be rotated 180 degrees, is provided between the clutch handle and the clutch sleeve. The clutch lever is movable between an engaged position, where the clutch lever engages the braking recesses, and a disengaged position, when the clutch handle is rotated in clockwise and anticlockwise directions.

    • A cable drawworks for a drilling rig has an electric motor and a primary drive transmission which connects the motor to a drum shaft that passes through the hub of a cable drum. The drum shaft is rotatably mounted on the drawworks frame whereas the cable drum is rotatably mounted on the drum shaft. The drum shaft connects to a secondary drive transmission that connects the drum shaft to the cable drum. The secondary drive transmission has a planetary gear transmission set. Each end of the cable drum has a brake drum and a brake band wrapped around thereon. A brake actuating system is used to selectively tighten the bands and includes an equalization linkage system resulting in equal braking forces being applied to each brake drum. The simplified cable drawworks system is compact enough to be mounted on the drilling rig floor and eliminates the need for liquid cooling of the braking mechanism.

    • A tension applying device including a housing in which are mounted a primary shaft, a main shaft, a pinion shaft, and a load-member sheave shaft. A ratchet handle is associated with the primary shaft for imparting rotation thereto when pumped by a user. Rotation of the primary shaft causes rotation of the main shaft which, in turn, is imparted to the pinion shaft and to a load-member sheave mounted on the load-chain sheave shaft. Rotation of the load-member sheave then applies tension to the load member which, in turn, is connected to a desired application. The tension applying device further includes a plurality of drive mechanisms for achieving different mechanical advantages between the ratchet handle and the load-member sheave, thereby allowing a desired input force to attain a desired output force. Further, the load on the tension member may be used for automatically switching between the plurality of drive mechanisms and for a load limit lock-up.

    • The present invention is a transmission used with a winch drum. The transmission includes a drive shaft, an output shaft, a hydraulic or pneumatic system, a cooling system, a gear coaxially mounted on the output shaft, and an electric motor for powering the gear. The drive shaft is adapted to drive the winch drum and includes a clutch disc extending generally radially outwards from the drive shaft. The clutch disc has a face. The output shaft coaxially surrounds at least a portion of the drive shaft and includes a friction surface extending generally radially inward. The friction surface has a face opposing the face of the clutch disc. The hydraulic or pneumatic system is adapted to bring the faces into contact, and the cooling system is adapted to remove heat from the friction surface via a fluid coolant.
