    • A vehicle disablement system that prevents and deters the unauthorized use of a vehicle by limiting engine operation to idle speed. A pedal obstructing device is located beneath the accelerator pedal of the vehicle that is selectively movable between an obstructing position, engaging the pedal, and an enablement position, clearing the pedal. The pedal obstructing device is moved into the obstructing position by an electromagnetic actuator (e.g., a solenoid) or by a motor. The device is locked into the obstructing position by a locking arm which is electromagnetically activated. In an alternative embodiment of the system, the electromagnetic actuator or the motor is controlled from a remotely operated transmitter.

    • An apparatus for locking and unlocking one or more storage compartments in a truck service body includes a channel assembly that is slidably secured to the service body by at least one channel support. A rod assembly having an L-shaped locking bracket is slidably secured to the service body by a plurality of rod supports. The rod assembly passes through the channel assembly. A handle for manually moving the rod assembly between a locked position and an unlocked position is included. The handle is rigidly secured to the channel assembly and extends outside of the service body. The handle is adapted for coupling to the service body by a manual locking mechanism. An electro-mechanical actuator is coupled to the rod assembly for moving the rod assembly between its locked and unlocked positions. The width of the channel is sufficient to allow the electro-mechanical actuator to move the rod assembly from its locked position to its unlocked position when the handle is coupled to the service body by the manual locking mechanism.

    • A lock assembly for a gear shifter of a vehicle includes a base plate mounted to a floor of the vehicle adjacent to the gear shifter, a base frame mounted on the base plate, and a motor mounted on the base frame and having an output bevel gear. A pair of mount plates are spaced on the base frame. A hollow holder is movably mounted on two guiding bars which parallelly extend between the mount plates. A holder block is provided inside the hollow holder. A guiding sleeve mounted on the base plate receives a screw therein. An end of the screw extends out of the guiding sleeve and engages with a holder for securely holding the gear shifter and for moving therewith. A screw member is rotatably mounted in one of the mount plates. The screw member includes a bevel gear end which meshes with the bevel gear of the motor, a right hand thread portion which engages with the hollow holder, and a left hand thread portion which engages with the holder block. A housing is provided to enclose the lock assembly and has an opening through which the gear shifter passes. The screw is locked between the hollow holder and the holder block when the motor is activated to turn in one direction. The screw is unlocked when the motor is activated to turn in another direction.

    • An apparatus and method are described, for converting vehicle door locks that can be only manually operated, into door locks that can be either electrically or manually opened and closed. The door lock originally has a key-operated lock device with a key cylinder projecting to the outside and with a lock member that can be moved to prevent rotation of a latch (22, FIG. 5) to its open position to enable opening of the door. The original door lock device is removed and a power pack (60) is installed, which includes a mechanism (64) that can engage the door latch, with the mechanism being operated by either an electrically energized action motor (70) or a key operated lock device (40A). The key operated lock device on the power pack has a cylinder (84) that mounts in the same position as the key cylinder of the original lock device that was removed.
