    • We have designed a machine for office use called the Electric Paper Reinforcer/Hole Puncher (EPRHP) to protect papers stored in three ring binders. EPRHP is an electric powered device that can automatically apply a clear, ultra thin layer of plastic film on the edge of printed documents to reinforce them, and then punch 3 holes within the plastic film area on these documents. As a result, these 3 holes will be reinforced and prevent the documents from being torn by the rings of the binder. EPRHP can be further used to reinforce large sized printed documents, such as 36×24 drawings, by applying the plastic film on the edge of drawings. The EPRHP is a portable machine and can be placed on an office desk. EPRHP can turn a document printed on a piece of regular bond paper into a durable document, without deforming the paper appearance or creating any winkles on the paper, all while leaving the main body of the page free to be marked up or otherwise modified.

    • A label dispensing apparatus of the invention dispenses labels from a feed roll of label web. The label web is comprised of backing and labels that are spaced apart from each other and adhered along a length of the backing. The apparatus includes a feed spindle for rotatably supporting the roll of label web. A label stripper is adapted to cause the labels to be stripped away from the backing. A take-up spool is adapted to receive the backing. A motor rotates the take-up spool effective to unwind the label web from the feed roll and to wind the backing onto the take-up spool. A holding roller is adapted to receive labels that have been stripped from the backing by the label stripper. The apparatus includes a workstation at which a plurality of articles are deposited. The workstation is adapted to enable an operator to remove one of the labels from the holding roller and to place the removed label on one of the articles. A gap sensor is adapted to sense the presence or absence of gaps between the labels on the backing and to send a signal indicating stoppage of the motor responsive thereto. A label presence sensor is adapted to sense the absence of a label from the holding roller and to send a signal indicating starting of the motor responsive thereto. Control devices are adapted to receive the signals from the label presence sensor and the gap sensor and to control starting and stopping of the motor, which in turn starts and stops rotation of the take-up spool. The invention may include two label dispensing devices used at the workstation. The invention also includes a method of operating the label dispensing device.

    • A component transfer device (100) according to the present invention includes a roller device (130) adapted for moving a liner (110) having a plurality of components (120) removably adhered thereto. The component transfer device includes a gripper (140) adapted for selectively gripping the liner, and a placement actuator (160) adapted for engaging a desired component (122) of the plurality of components. The placement actuator is further adapted for placing the desired component on a target device (176). The gripper and placement actuator are removably coupled with a coupler (150), with the coupler adapted for moving the placement actuator when the roller device moves the liner. In this manner, a controlled movement of the placement actuator and desired component is achieved.

    • A label affixer shoe, having an application blade with an edge, a first surface, and second surface, and a pivot. The shoe pivots between first and second orientations. The first surface, edge, said second surface separate a label from a liner when the label and liner are moved from the first surface of the shoe past the edge toward the second surface. The shoe may be incorporated into an affixer carriage, also including a pivot actuator. The shoe may be incorporated into an affixer module, with a translation actuator, a card feed mechanism, and a label feed mechanism. When the blade is in the first orientation, the shoe does not obstruct the feeding of the card to or from the label receiving position. The translation of the shoe from the first position to the second position while the blade is in the second orientation applies the label to the card.
