    • A machine direction method of manufacture of reclosable packages is disclosed wherein a semi-circular or similarly shaped perforated pattern is punched in the web in registration with the package side seals. Continuous lines of perforation are punched in the web parallel to the top of the package. The web is folded and shaped into a package with a header which includes the semi-circular perforated pattern and the lines of perforation. A similar transverse direction method of manufacture is disclosed. When the top corner of the header is pulled, the header tears along the shaped perforation until it meets the horizontal line of perforation, thereby avoiding tearing through the area of the header that is sealed to the zipper flange, the header then tears along the horizontal perforation and finally follows the shaped perforation on the opposite end of the package.

    • An apparatus for imparting a tearable region to a pre-formed pouch. A lower block has a flat surface on which is provided a lower perforating member that corresponds to a corner of the unsealed pouch. The lower perforating member has been formed by depositing a large number of particles having acute corners and a Mohs hardness of not less than 5 on the lower block flat surface. An upper block with an upper perforating member that corresponds to the corner of the pouch is arranged above the lower block.     • A recloseable container comprises an outer carton and a collar disposed therein. The outer carton includes opposing top and bottom walls, opposing front and back walls, and opposing side walls. The collar is press bonded to one or more of the inner surfaces of the opposing front and back walls and the opposing side walls of the carton. The opposing side walls and the front wall of the carton include a continuous horizontal tear strip for opening up the carton from a sealed form to form a lid hingedly attached to a base section. To manufacture the recloseable container, an outer surface of a strip of collar material is press bonded to an inner surface of carton material. The attached carton material and strip of collar material are then simultaneously die-cut and scored to produce a respective carton blank and collar blank from which the recloseable container is formed.
