摘要： Scanners are provided. A scanner includes a scan module, a separator, and a housing having a transparent plate. The scanning module is movably received in the housing to scan a first object or a second object through the transparent plate. The separator includes a rotary member and a main body connected to the scan module. The rotary member connects the main body and movably contacts the transparent plate. When the rotary member is at a first angle, the first object is located in a depth of field (DOF) of the scan module. When the rotary member rotates from the first angle to a second angle, the scan module moves toward the transparent plate, such that the second object is retained in the depth of field.

摘要： An image-reading apparatus for reading an image formed on a document is provided which includes an automatic document feeder, a dynamic-document reading section, a static-document reading section, and a document-covering member. A light source mechanism irradiates an exposing light onto the document at either the dynamic-document reading section or the static-document reading section. A shutter member is provided which is movable between a shading position at which the shutter member blocks a portion of the emitted exposing light, and a non-shading position at which the shutter member does not block the exposing light. When the document is moved by the automatic document feeder at the dynamic-document reading section to read the image on the document, the shutter member is positioned at the non-shading position. When the document is stationarily placed on the static-document reading section to read the image, the shutter member is positioned at the shading position.

摘要： The object of this invention is to read an image (scan flow), when an original is being moved, above a scan flow glass member, so as to prevent degradation in image caused by dust or a scar on a scan flow glass. In order to achieve this object, the original which is being moved is illuminated by an illumination system comprised of an illumination light source and reflecting member and different from an illumination system in a reading apparatus body and comprised of an illumination light source and reflecting member. After a reflected light beam passes through a slit and the scan flow glass member, it forms an image on a line sensor, e.g., a CCD, by an imaging lens through a movable mirror. As the original moves at a constant speed, it is read by the line sensor, e.g., a CCD, at a predetermined timing, thereby obtaining image information of the original. The original is located above the scan flow glass member. Even if dust or a scar of about several tens μm is present on the scan flow glass member, it goes out of focus, so it can be prevented from forming an absent point of the line sensor such as a CCD.

An actuator actuates the at least one reflecting mirror to enable the image sensor to selectively sense one of the sections of the background component as a scan background for the document through the lens and the at least one reflecting mirror.

摘要： In the correction of the quantity of light of a light source used in an image reader which irradiates an original document with the light source, receives the reflected light by a CCD and reads the original document image, at the time of a document moving mode in which the document moves, correction of the quantity of irradiation light of the light source is performed by reading a first standard white board which extends over the whole area in the main scanning direction, prior to the initiation of readout of the moving document, and upon initiation of readout of the moving document, a second standard white board arranged outside the document passing area is read by using the same light source, with the read operation of the moving document, and correction of the quantity of irradiation light of the light source is performed based on the reflected light from the second white board.

摘要： An image scanning device that can be manufactured less costly. When ADF scans an original document (21) loaded in a document hopper (22) of a document feeder unit (12), a stepper motor (M2) is first driven by a motor driver (101) such that it moves a first carriage (50) from a second document scanning start position (P3) to a first document scanning position (P2). The first carriage (50) carries a scanner (14). After that, another stepper motor (M1) is activated by the same motor driver (101) to move the original document (21) over a contact glass (25), and the original document is scanned by the scanner (14). The two stepper motors (M1, 2M2) are selectively driven by the single motor driver (101) so that cost reduction is realized as compared with providing two motor drivers for two stepper motors.

摘要： An image reading apparatus comprises a scanner and an ADF. The scanner includes a housing having an upper surface which is formed of a document table glass and a through-read glass. The ADF is provided to cover the document table glass and through-read glass. The housing contains first and second carriages such that they can slide along rails. In a through-read mode, the first carriage is moved to a reading position below the through-read glass, the case of the first carriage is magnetically held by an electromagnet, and the first carriage is fixed at a reading position. A vibration-absorbing member is interposed between the electromagnet and the case, thereby preventing vibration, generated by an ADF driving motor, from being transmitted to the first carriage via the housing.
