    • A product ion spectrum is created on the basis of MS2 analysis data respectively obtained for a parent compound and a metabolite (S1 and S2). Additionally, a neutral loss spectrum, in which the mass of each product ion is replaced with a mass difference between the mass of the product ion and that of a precursor ion, is created (S3). Then, a common peak having the same mass on the neutral loss spectrums of both the parent compound and the metabolite is extracted (S4), and a complementary peak appearing on the product ion spectrum of the metabolite is extracted (S5); this peak appears at a position corresponding to the difference between the mass of the common peak and that of the precursor ion. The ion corresponding to the complementary peak is designated as a precursor ion for the next MS3 analysis (S6), and this MS3 analysis is performed (S7). By a dissociation operation, if a portion common to the parent compound and the metabolite is desorbed in the form of a neutral molecule while a different portion remains in the form of an ion, an MS3 analysis in which the ion of the different portion is used as the precursor ion is performed to obtain structural information of a site of metabolism.

    • A method of mass spectrometry is disclosed comprising separating first ions according to a first physico-chemical property in a first separator wherein at least some of the first ions undergo a different number of cycles or passes within the separator and separating the first ions which emerge from the first separator according to a second physico-chemical property wherein the second physico-chemical property is correlated with the first physico-chemical property. The method further comprises determining the second physico-chemical property of the first ions and determining, assigning or de-convolving the first physico-chemical property of the first ions based upon the determined second physico-chemical property of the first ions.

    • A mass spectrometry method comprises: introducing a first portion of a sample of ions including precursor ions comprising a first precursor-ion mass-to-charge (m/z) ratio into a first mass analyzer; transmitting the precursor ions from the first mass analyzer to a reaction or fragmentation cell such that a first population of product ions are continuously accumulated therein over a first accumulation time duration; initiating release of the accumulated first population of product ions from the reaction or fragmentation cell; continuously transmitting the released first population of product ions from the reaction cell to a second mass analyzer; transmitting a portion of the released first population of product ions comprising a first product-ion m/z ratio from the second mass analyzer to a detector; and detecting a varying quantity of the product ions having the first product-ion m/z ratio for a predetermined data-acquisition time period after the initiation of the release.
