    • An impedance conversion layer useful for medical imaging ultrasonic transducers comprises a low impedance polymer layer and a high impedance metal layer. These layers are combined with corresponding thicknesses adapted to provide a function of converting from a specific high impedance to specific low impedance, wherein the polymer layer is at the high impedance side and the metal layer is at the low impedance side. The effective acoustic impedance of the polymer and metal layer combination may be adapted to configure an impedance converter in the same way as a quarter wavelength impedance converter, converting from low impedance to high impedance (metal to polymer) or from a high impedance to low impedance (polymer to metal). This structure may be used for front matching with the propagation medium and back matching with an absorber for ultrasonic transducers.

    • A wand for delivering therapeutic ultrasonic energy to a target area includes a module and a transducer. The transducer converts electrical energy into ultrasonic vibrations that are delivered to the module. The module includes a fluid chamber that houses an ultrasonic fluid. In order to reduce or eliminate the deleterious effects of bubbles that may form in the ultrasonic fluid, one or more bubble traps are defined in the fluid chamber that capture, store, and/or assist in keeping the bubbles outside of the direct transmission path of the ultrasonic energy through the fluid. One or more barriers may be included in the trap(s) that obstruct movement of the bubbles into the transmission path when the wand is tilted to different orientations. After passing through the fluid, the ultrasonic energy is delivered to the skin of a patient, or other surface to which the ultrasonic energy is being directed.

    • An ultrasonic probe including an ultrasonic transducer, an electrode extraction layer, and a low acoustic impedance matching layer. The ultrasonic transducer includes a plurality of elements arranged with predetermined spacing. The electrode extraction layer is electrically connected to the ultrasonic transducer. The low acoustic impedance matching layer is provided on the electrode extraction layer, having lower acoustic impedance than the ultrasonic transducer, wherein a plurality of grooves are shaped on the surface of the electrode extraction layer side in parallel to the element array direction. The ultrasonic probe prevents resolving power deterioration in ultrasonic images that may further extract electrodes of an ultrasonic transducer with high reliability.

    • An ultrasonic probe is provided capable of eliminating difficulties in processing, increasing the directivity of ultrasonic waves, and obtaining a high-resolution diagnostic image. An ultrasonic probe 10 is configured to include a plurality of piezoelectric elements 1, an acoustic matching layer 2 provided on a front surface in the thickness direction at a subject side (upper side in the drawing) so as to correspond to the respective piezoelectric elements 1, a backing load member 3 provided, as necessary, on a rear surface (lower surface in the drawing) in the thickness direction of the piezoelectric elements 1 at a side opposite to the acoustic matching layer 2, and an acoustic lens 4 provided, as necessary, on the acoustic matching layer 2.
