    • A lubricating oil supply system for an infinitely variable transmission wherein the infinitely variable transmission has a transmission shaft provided with a lubricating oil path and is rotatably mounted through the wall section of a casing. The infinitely variable transmission is housed in a transmission case partly defined by the wall section. An input rotary member is provided that is relatively unrotatably connected to the transmission shaft on the outside of the transmission case. An oil pump is provided for supplying lubricating oil to the lubricating oil path. The oil pump is located in the casing. In this infinitely variable transmission, the oil passage from the oil pump to the lubricated portion of the infinitely variable transmission is simplified in structure and the oil passage is substantially reduced in length, thereby enabling a decrease in the length of the transmission shaft. The oil pump which is driven by the transmission shaft is located on the wall section.

    • Components, subassemblies, systems, and/or methods for continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are provided. In one embodiment, a CVT has a number of spherical planets in contact with an idler assembly. Various idler assemblies can be used to facilitate to improve durability, fatigue life, and efficiency of a CVT. In one embodiment, the idler assembly has two rolling elements having contact surfaces that are angled with respect to a longitudinal axis of the CVT. In some embodiments, a bearing is operably coupled between the first and second rolling elements. The bearing is configured to balance axial force between the first and second rolling elements. In one embodiment, the bearing is a ball bearing. In another embodiment, the bearing is an angular contact bearing. In yet other embodiments, needle roller bearings are employed.

    • A continuously variable transmission includes a shaft, first and second rotary members, a sun roller, a carrier, planetary balls, a gear shifter for changing a gear ratio between input and output by tilting each of the planetary balls, a casing for accommodating these elements, and a lubricating oil supply opening for supplying lubricating oil into the casing. The casing includes a discharge opening for discharging the lubricating oil to the outside of the casing. The discharge opening is provided in a wall of the casing in an axial direction of the shaft and radially outside the lubricating oil supply opening. As seen in the axial direction, the discharge opening is formed either at a position that crosses a contact section between the planetary ball and each of the first and second rotary members or an auxiliary contact section, or radially outside the contact section or the auxiliary contact section.
