    • A positive crankcase ventilation system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system includes an engine having a cylinder air intake system connected to associated cylinders and a filtered air inlet to a crankcase for admitting air to mix with crankcase vapors. A throttle is disposed in the cylinder air intake system for controlling airflow to the associated cylinders. The system further includes a venturi nozzle having an inlet and an outlet. The venturi nozzle inlet is connected to the crankcase for receiving the mixture of filtered air and crankcase vapors. The venturi nozzle outlet is connected to the cylinder air intake system at a location subject to variable intake vacuum pressure between the throttle and the cylinders to allow the mixture of filtered air and crankcase vapors to be drawn into the inlet air passing to the cylinders downstream of the throttle.

    • A positive crankcase ventilation valve for venting crankcase gases from a crankcase of an engine has a valve casing with an inlet adapted to communicate with the crankcase and an outlet adapted to communicate with an engine intake manifold for the flow of crankcase gases drawn from the crankcase through the valve casing by the engine manifold when the engine is running. A metering pintle reciprocates in the casing. A crossbar extends across the casing adjacent to the inlet. A spring presses the pintle against the crossbar when the engine is not running. The pintle is moved away from the crossbar against the pressure of the spring by the flow of the crankcase gases when the engine is running to meter the flow of the crankcase gases. The crossbar is a narrow roll pin so that if moisture between the roll pin and pintle freezes when the engine is not running, the frozen moisture will quickly break away when the engine is started.

    • A closed crankcase emission control assembly for an internal combustion engine includes a filter assembly comprising a housing and a replaceable filter element. The filter element includes a ring of filter media; a first annular end cap sealed to one end of the media ring; a second end cap sealed to another end of the media ring; a cup-shaped valve pan fixed to the second end cap and which together therewith defines a sump container; and an opening with a lip seal in the valve pan which closely receives a standpipe from the housing to allow continuous drainage of oil collected by the filter element. The filter housing includes an inlet port to receive blow-by gasses from the engine crankcase, and an outlet port to provide the substantially oil and particulate free gasses to an induction system (e.g. a turbocharger) and back to the engine crankcase.
