    • The present invention is directed to an offset level for translating a particular grade location and line location from a reference point. The offset level includes a ruler for measuring vertical height from the reference point and a housing selectively slibable on the ruler for positioning the housing at the specific vertical height from the reference point. The offset level further includes a pointer extending outwardly from the housing for translating the desired vertical measurement to an offset location. The pointer also includes a ruler component to permit a horizontal distance to be measured from the reference point to establish a line. The offset level further includes a leveling device to insure the horizontal alignment of the pointer during the line and grade designations.

    • A method (30) is provided for the detection and analysis of anomalies (32) in a road surface (36). An image (34) of the road surface (36) is obtained (82) wherein traffic control markings (76) are masked (88). The image (34) is filtered (90) and a pixel map (92) is produced (98). The pixel map (92) is partitioned (112) into a multiplicity of subimages (108). For each subimage (108), anomaly parameters are identified (120) and a status characteristic is determined (124) and assigned (136). A subimage map (138) is produced (142) depicting the subimages (108) and their status characteristics. A determination (156) is made as to which subimages (108) contain anomalies (32). Anomaly-containing subimages (108) are grouped (158) into anomalous objects (152). For each anomalous object (152), an object type (162) is determined (160) and assigned (164). An object map (154) is then produced (166) depicting the anomalous objects (152).

    • A concrete screed rail support apparatus which includes a saddle having a channel with open ends and an open top for accommodating a screed rail, and a pair of arms each connected at its proximal end portion to the saddle. Each arm extends outwardly from the saddle and connects to a leg at the distal end portion. Each leg extends toward the concrete pour surface, and the length of each leg between the pour surface and its connection to the distal end portion of the arms is adjustable. Locking mechanisms are provided to fix the position of the legs once adjusted and to lock the screed rail to the saddle. Pads can be used between the pour surface and the legs for stability and to prevent damage to vapor barriers or waterproofing membranes.

    • A screed support and method for screeding cement comprises digging a plurality of arranged holes in the bed surface of the area to be cemented. Unsolidified cement is poured into each of the holes, a hollow sleeve is inserted into the wet cement and positioned therein in a substantially vertical orientation, and the cement is cured to a solidified state. A rail support member having a threaded rod and a mating, adjustable collar, is telescopically inserted into each of the sleeves. Screed support rails are connected with each rod, and the elevation and inclination of the same is adjusted in infinitely small increments by manipulating each collar in accordance with the desired, predetermined requirements. Additional unsolidified cement is then poured between the rails, and a self-propelled screeding machine is passed thereover to smoothen and level the uneven free surface of the additional cement. Before the additional cement hardens, the rails are disconnected from the support members and the collar and rod assemblies are extracted from the sleeves.
