    • A method of performing CPR on the patient while altering the body temperature of a patient comprises covering at least a thoracic region of the patient with a cover. A heat transfer liquid is directed to flow through liquid passages in the cover for contact with the thoracic region of the patient. Oxygen is supplied to the lungs of the patient, and the thoracic region of the patient is compressed directly through the cover while heat transfer liquid is being directed through the liquid passages in the cover. Apparatus for adjusting the body temperature of a patient generally comprising an enclosure sized and shaped for receiving at least a torso of the patient's body. A heat transfer liquid has a temperature between about 0° C. and about 5° C. A pump drives the heat transfer liquid into the enclosure for connect with the patient's body at a rate greater than about 6 liters per minute.

    • A new method for treating the diapered area of a child's skin to prevent diaper dermatitis. The method features the use of a portable drying apparatus having a housing with an air admitting inlet and an air discharging outlet, a rotary impeller mechanism in the housing for creating a flow of air through the air outlet, and a handle mounted to the housing. The method employs the use of an air stream which is at or near air ambient temperature. Exposing the child's skin to air at such temperatures minimizes the risk of skin burn as a safe method for treating the diapered area. The present invention also includes an improved apparatus as referred to above.

    • This invention is a heat conserving or cooling suit enclosure of plastic sheet for a patient undergoing a medical procedure or for a patient with hypothermia or hyperthermia from any cause. The enclosure is preferably compartmentalized to allow the sealing off of non-effected parts of the body to reduce or increase heat loss and if necessary, to actively heat or cool those parts while permitting full access to the areas which are the subject of a surgical procedure. The enclosure may have separate elements for the arms and legs with each of the compartments having a longitudinal preferably upstanding seam, readily openable to allow access to those areas for manipulation and procedures and which can be resealed around tubes and conduits inserted into or attached to the patient. The patient is placed upon each open component part of the enclosure while it is flat and the part is subsequently closed about the patient by engaging the longitudinal seams. The parts of the enclosure normally consist of head, arm, leg, abdominal and thoracic parts. Additional adhesive which directly contacts the patient is provided at the transverse areas bordering compartments which can be employed when one adjacent compartment is to be maintained in open condition to prevent heat loss from non-involved parts of the body of the patient. One or more portals for connecting air circulating, heating or cooling and dehumidifying devices to said enclosure can be attached as required.
