    • The present invention relates to a unilayer flexible performance fabric which may be fabricated into apparel and articles having high performance fibers, such as high tensile modulus fibers positioned within a base fabric in at least one preselected location only where required to import performance characteristics which are equal to or exceed the specifications for the garment. For example, if cut resistance is a requirement, performance fibers which provide such protection from this hazard would be used. Likewise, if abrasion resistance is intended for an apparel such as coveralls, only the knees and elbows would require the performance fiber. Thus, reducing the amount of expensive fibers normally used. The invented fabric is manufacturede in a method in which the placement of the fabric in preselected locations is computer controlled.

    • A glove liner which can be used in harsh environments to protect the user's hand from cuts and burns is disclosed. In so doing, the liners are made in two layers, with each layer performing a particular function. The inner layer is made from heat resistant material which will protect the user's hand from being burned in harsh environments. The outer layer is made from material which is cut resistant thereby preventing the user's hand from being cut or punctured and also preventing the heat resistant layer from being damaged. The liner is manufactured in such a manner as to provide the firefighter with maximum agility and mobility in his hand. The liner also protects the user in environments where the liner is not fully effective. In extremely harsh environments, it is conceivable that the user's hand may be burned. In such instances, the design of the liner allows the outer glove to be removed from the user's hand without damaging the skin of the user. The liner is maintained intact on the user's hand so that no skin will be removed by the removal of the liner. The liner is configured to allow the hand and the liner to be submersed in a solution until the user is transported to a hospital where proper medical procedures can be employed.

    • A protective glove comprising a first portion for covering the palm-side of a wearer's hand and a second portion that is attached to the first portion and which covers the back side of the wearer's hand. The first portion is comprised of a single, seamless piece of pliable plastic molded in a three-dimensional shape that conforms to the shape of a hand in a relaxed position. The second portion is comprised of a cut resistant material. The protective glove includes thumb and finger stalls. Each stall has a first side corresponding to the palm side of the wearer's hand and a second side that corresponds to the back side of the wearer's hand. Each stall is comprised of the molded, pliable plastic except for a portion of the second side of each stall which is comprised of the cut resistant material. In one embodiment, the cut resistant material is also liquid resistant.

    • Single and two-sided hand and finger thimbles constructed to mount over the fingertips to provide non-slip gripping surfaces and improved protection at the fingertips and palm. Several thimbles include surfaces that contain impenetrable shields, elastomer pads or raised patterns of a coated elastomer. The coated thimbles facilitate paper separation, sorting, and counting. Plastic or metallic shields can fitted to shield and/or encase the fingertip. The shield can be exposed through an aperture and can include a pitted surface. Pull-tabs and elastic sizing members facilitate fitting the thimbles to the fingers. Alternative wrist supported, glove-like assemblies having one or more finger pieces fitted with shielding and gripping assemblies and padded palm regions are also disclosed.

    • A glove for use by medical personnel which is adapted to help prevent accidental injuries when handling needles includes a first discrete layer of flexible material which has a pore size smaller than the diameter of a needle. The first layer forms a glove with an optional opening in the fingerprint area of the index finger stall and middle finger stall. The glove also includes a second discrete layer of flexible material which also has a pore size which is smaller than the diameter of a needle. This second layer is permanently attached to selected areas of the first layer. The selected areas comprise all of the thumb stall, and lateral sides of the index finger stall and middle finger stall. Preferably, the fingernail region is not covered by the second layer and backsides of the first distal joint portion of the index and middle finger stall are covered. A V-opening for the back side of the glove includes two distinct fastening devices. A third discrete layer of corrugated metal foil is optionally provided in the selected areas. Methods for sterilization and disinfecting are also provided.
