    • A gutter broom assembly for a street sweeper and method of use are disclosed. The invention relates to street sweeper having a vacuum system for moving air through a portion thereof and having a gutter broom assembly. The gutter broom assembly includes housing, a gutter broom being movable between an operational orientation and a transport orientation relative to the housing, and a skirt assembly attached to the housing. A sweeping chamber is defined within the housing and the skirt assembly which substantially encloses the gutter broom. A vacuum connection between the sweeping chamber and the vacuum system is provided for removing dust within the sweeping chamber when the gutter broom frame is in its operational orientation.

    • Machines and methods for curing ultraviolet (UV) curable floor coatings are provided. In one embodiment, the machine includes a UV radiation source having one or more lamps where each lamp is operable to simultaneously emit UV radiation at two or more wavelengths and at relatively low power consumption, e.g., no more than about 75 watts per inch of cured coating width. The floor coating includes components that are reactive to these two or more wavelengths such that substantial or complete curing of the floor coating may occur upon simultaneous exposure to the two or more wavelengths. Preferably, the UV radiation emitted by each of the one or more lamps is greater at the two or more wavelengths than at wavelengths other than the two or more wavelengths.

    • The invention is directed to an aggregate floor coating and method/system for applying the same. In one embodiment, a base layer of epoxy or equivalent material may be applied to a prepared floor surface. Prior to curing of the base layer, a quantity of aggregate flooring material, e.g., quartz particles, may be broadcast over the exposed surface of the base layer. Upon curing of the base layer, an ultraviolet (UV)-curable topcoat layer may be applied. Exposure of the UV-curable topcoat layer to one or more specific wavelengths of UV energy results in fast curing of the topcoat layer, permitting quick resumption of floor traffic. Coatings of the present invention provide numerous advantages, such as allowing application of aggregate floor coatings in well-lit, e.g., sun-exposed areas.

    • A sweeping machine has a chassis, wheels for supporting the chassis and a brush mounted on the chassis for rotation to throw debris over the brush and into a debris hopper mounted on the chassis behind the brush. There is a control lever on the chassis for raising and lowering the brush relative to a surface to be swept. As the brush wears, a recirculation flap is positioned between the brush and the debris hopper and located closely adjacent a rear portion of the brush to direct debris not reaching the debris hopper forwardly toward the brush sweeping zone. The recirculation flap is moved toward and away from the brush concurrently with movement of the brush toward the surface being swept as the brush wears, whereby the space between the rear portion of the brush and the recirculation flap remains relatively constant.

    • A vacuum trash collection vehicle includes a frame with facilities for debris collection mounted on the frame which include a debris canister. There is a cover for the canister and there is a vacuum fan in the cover. A debris collection hose is connected to the cover and is in communication with the vacuum fan whereby vacuum is applied to the hose. There is a boom for supporting the hose and a driver control for manipulating the hose for debris collection. The debris canister is pivotally mounted on the frame and there are side-by-side debris collection containers positioned within the canister. A deflector plate is mounted above the debris canister to direct debris passing from the hose and into the cover toward both of the side-by-side debris collection containers.

    • A vacuum trash collection vehicle has a debris container and a source of vacuum, both located on the vehicle. There is a hose connected at one end to the debris container and has the source of vacuum applied thereto. The other end of the hose is open to form a collection nozzle. There is a boom for supporting the nozzle during use as a debris collection device with the boom including a rear support arm pivotally mounted to the vehicle and supporting the hose in a rear area and a forward support arm pivotally mounted to the rear arm and supporting the hose at an area forward of the rear support arm. There is a control element accessible to the vehicle driver for moving the hose and nozzle. There is a spring pivotally connected between the rear and front support arms which urges the front support arm in an upward direction to, at least in part, carry the weight of the hose for assisting the vehicle driver in operating the control element. An adjustment means readily accessible to the driver allows him or her to vary the moment arm by which the spring urges the front arm upward, thereby varying the height at which the front arm supports the hose.

    • A floor scrubber has four wheels for stable support on the floor. These wheels are attached to the underside of a resilient molded plastic frame so that any vertical movement of any of the wheels is transmitted directly to the frame. The frame is ribbed to be stiff in longitudinal bending, but torsionally the frame is somewhat flexible. The scrubber body, which is attached to the upper side of the frame and is supported by the frame, is also a molded plastic part which is somewhat flexible. The weight of the body and its contents keeps all four wheels on the floor at all times, even when the floor is uneven, by flexing the frame and body as needed. This structural flexibility eliminates any need for an additional means to keep all the wheels on the floor, such as a sprung suspension or a center pivoted axle.
