    • An applicator assembly for delivery of a pumpable material to a top surface of a rail head includes an applicator body having a plurality of orifices. The body is resiliently yieldable to permit the applicator body to move from a raised position, in which the orifices are located adjacent the top surface of the rail head and open toward the top surface of the rail head for delivery of lubricant directly from the orifices to the top surface of the rail head, to a depressed position in the event the applicator is contacted by a train wheel. The applicator body thereafter returns to the raised position. A metal portion of the applicator body contacts a side surface of the rail head to form a metal-on-metal hard seal extending lengthwise of the rail head for inhibiting leakage of the pumpable material from the top of the rail head.

    • An applicator assembly for delivery of a pumpable material to a top surface of a rail head of rail includes an applicator body having an orifice for delivery of the pumpable material to the top surface of the rail. The applicator body is mounted for movement between a working position in which the applicator body is closely adjacent the rail head and a rail-service position in which the applicator body is remote from the rail head. When the applicator body is in its working position, a metal portion of the applicator body contacts the rail head to form a metal-on-metal hard seal extending lengthwise of the rail head for inhibiting leakage of the pumpable material from the top of the rail head. The applicator assembly is free of any non-metal seals for sealing against such leakage.

    • A compact lubricant injector is disclosed. The injector includes an injector body having an inlet for lubricant under pressure, an outlet, and a measuring chamber for receiving lubricant from the inlet. A piston is movable in the injector body along a first axis through a stroke in the measuring chamber for the discharge of a measured volume of lubricant from the measuring chamber and thence through the outlet. A valve is movable in the injector body along a second axis different from the first axis. The valve is responsive to pressure conditions in the inlet for operation of the injector in a cycles ending in a state for venting the injector to effect recharging of the measuring chamber involving the transmission of lubricant from the inlet to the measuring chamber. A combination of at least one such lubricant injector and a manifold is also disclosed.

    • A hand operated pump for generating negative and positive air pressure. The pump includes a pump body having a pump cylinder and a piston mounted for reciprocation in the cylinder. A selector valve communicates with the cylinder and is moveable between a positive-pressure position and a negative-pressure position. The arrangement is such that operation of an actuator to move the piston through a power stroke when the selector valve is in its negative-pressure position causes the pump to generate negative pressure at an outlet of the pump, and operation of the actuator to move the piston through a power stroke when the selector valve is in its positive-pressure position causes the pump to generate positive pressure at the outlet of the pump. A method of operating such a pump is also disclosed.
