摘要： In an image forming apparatus in which a rear plate having electron-emitting devices and a face plate having light emitting members, a black matrix, and metal back electrodes are arranged so as to face each other, an influence on the electron-emitting devices by a discharge between the rear plate and the face plate is reduced, thereby realizing high durability and a long life. Strip shaped resistors which are parallel with the Y direction, phosphor, and a black matrix to shield an area between adjacent phosphor against the light are arranged to scanning wirings which are parallel with the X direction. Further, metal back electrodes which are electrically connected to the strip shaped resistors through the black matrix and cover the strip shaped resistors and phosphor are arranged in the X direction, thereby constructing the face plate.

The apparatus further comprises a plurality of substrates having the electron-emitting devices arrayed thereon and being arranged side by side, and a deviating unit for deviating the electron beams emitted from the electron-emitting devices arrayed on the substrates. The deviating unit deviates the electron beams toward the boundary between the substrates. When the plurality of substrates are combined with each other to provide the image forming apparatus having a large-sized screen, a display incapable region is prevented from appearing at the boundary between the substrates.

摘要： A microtip has a tip portion formed by gathering of three crystal faces of a single crystal, at least one of the crystal faces being an etched face at and around the tip portion. The microtip is produced by breaking and splitting a single crystal by applying a stress, and subjecting the face formed by breaking of the single crystal to anisotropic etching by utilizing facial orientation, thus forming a tip portion as a gathering point of three crystal faces of the single crystal. A surface-observing apparatus for observing a surface of a specimen and an information-treating apparatus comprise a tip in proximity to the specimen to be observed or a recording medium, and conduct the surface observation or the writing or reading by using the tip, respectively.

摘要： A light extracting structure which can efficiently extract light emitted from a light-emitting layer. A capture layer is formed onto a first translucent material film formed on a substrate. A dispersion liquid obtained by dispersing particles into a dispersion medium is coated onto the capture layer. The dispersion medium is volatilized. A particle sediment layer is formed onto the capture layer. The particles in the lowest layer of the sediment layer are captured into the capture layer at a filling rate of 93% or more for the 2-dimensional closest packing. The non-captured particles are removed. An etching is performed by using the captured particles as a mask. Concave portions are formed in the first translucent material film. The particles remaining after the etching and the capture layer are removed. Thereafter, the concave portions are embedded with a second translucent material having a different refractive index.
