    • A coupling device has a pulley that receives rotational torque from an engine. The torque is transmitted to a shaft through a hub and a one-way clutch. A torque limiter is screwed on the shaft to fasten the inner ring of the one-way clutch onto the shaft. The torque limiter has a breakable portion. The torque is directly transmitted from the inner ring to the shaft when the torque is normal. If the torque exceeds the tightening torque of the torque limiter, the inner ring begins to slide and rotate, and drives the torque limiter in a tightening direction. As the torque limiter is tightened additionally, the tensile stress on the breakable portion is increased. Then, the breakable portion breaks and is separated in axial direction so that the coupling device disconnects torque transmission.

    • In order to reduce an electromagnetic clutch in an axial size, a ring-shaped leaf spring connects an armature to a hub. The leaf spring has an outer ring portion connected to the armature, an attachment portion connected to the hub and located inner than the outer ring portion, and a connecting portion for connecting the outer ring portion and the attachment portion. A plurality of rivets of the armature are disposed at the outer ring portion. An embossed portion for generating an initial deflection on the leaf spring is disposed at an intermediate portion between the rivets in the circumferential direction of the outer ring portion.

    • A clutch mechanism includes a pulley, an armature, an electromagnet, a plate spring and a damper. The armature combines with the pulley in a direction of a rotation axis. The electromagnet generates attracting magnetic force, which attracts the armature in a joining direction. The plate spring generates resilient force, which urges the armature in an opposite direction from the joining direction. The damper includes an impact mitigation part mitigating an impact when the armature collides with the pulley. The pulley, the armature, the damper and the plate spring are arranged in this order in the direction of the rotation axis. The damper includes a contact portion contacting part of the armature in the direction of the rotation axis. The plate spring includes a pressing part pressing the contact portion on the armature during both the joining and unjoining of the armature and the pulley.

The coil spool 14 has an inclined surface at an inner corner location which is located adjacent the frictional surface 2a of the rotor 2. The coil spool has a recess at a location where the inclined surface is formed, in which recess a temperature fuse is arranged. The temperature fuse is broken under a condition that the temperature is higher than a predetermined value, thereby de-energizing the electromagnetic coil 5.

    • An electromagnetic clutch capable of reducing a noise generated upon contact of an armature with rotor. Upon the movement of the armature 5 toward to rotor 4 by means of an electromagnetic force, just before the contact of the armature 5 with the rotor 4, a steep increase in a force for opposing the movement of the armature 5 with respect to the rotor 4 is obtained, thereby reducing an impact upon the contact, and reducing the noise.
