    • An opto-electronic transceiver assembly comprising a socket for receiving an optical transmission medium and a securing structure for receiving an opto-electronic device. The socket and securing structure are designed so that the optical transmission medium and the opto-electronic device become connected upon receipt by the sleeve device. The sleeve device may then be securely attached to a printed circuit board. In an alternative embodiment, the securing structure is a receiving slot into which the opto-electronic device may be inserted. In yet another alternative embodiment, the receiving slot includes a support shelf which supports and which is thermally coupled to the opto-electronic device.

    • A two terminal ESD protection structure formed by an alternating arrangement of adjacent p-n-p-n-p semiconductor regions provides protection against both positive and negative ESD pulses. When an ESD pulse appears across the two terminals of the ESD protection structure, one of the inherent n-p-n-p thyristors is triggered into a snap-back mode thereby to form a low impedance path to discharge the ESD current. Some embodiments of the ESD protection structure of the present invention have an enhanced current handling capability and are formed by combining a number of standard cells. The standard cells include a corner cell, a center cell and an edge cell which are arranged adjacent each other to form an ESD protection structure which provides for current flow from across many locations therein. Some embodiments of the ESD protection structure of the present invention include a network consisting of a pair of current sources, e.g. back-to-back zener diodes, each connected in series with a resistor to control the trigger voltage of the ESD protection structure.

    • A substrate voltage bias generator is disclosed including a charge pump whose output is clamped during charge pump capacitor charging cycles to zero volts thereby eliminating a voltage drop associated with prior art clamping diodes. The charge pump further includes a stand-by and booted mode, the stand-by mode providing a first level of output current at a specified generated substrate bias voltage and in the booted mode generating increased output current and voltage. The increased voltage is generated across the charge pump capacitor by a second capacitor that is only operative in the booted mode and whose charge is shared with the charge pump capacitor thereby developing a higher voltage across the charge pump capacitor. The output voltage generated by the substrate bias generator is detected and if it is too low a voltage, the booted mode is turned off. An external signal determines whether the stand-by mode or booted mode are selected.

    • The present invention allows transmission of multiple signals between masthead electronics and base housing electronics in a base station environment. At least some of the received signals from the multiple antennas are translated to being centered about different center frequencies, such that the translated signals may be combined into a composite signal including each of the received signals. The composite signal is then sent over a single feeder cable to base housing electronics, wherein the received signals are separated and processed by transceiver circuitry. Prior to being provided to the transceiver circuitry, those signals that were translated from being centered about one frequency to another may be retranslated to being centered about the original center frequency.

    • A flex interconnect with an integrated electrical-to optical and optical-to-electrical transport layer, which enables the optical transport of critical high speed data without the need of expensive and bulky optical connectors. The flex interconnect assembly includes a flexible printed circuit substrate, which includes one or more electrical interconnects, formed on the flexible printed circuit substrate, for transmitting one or more electrical signals respectively. The flexible printed circuit substrate also includes an optical waveguide mounted onto the substrate. The optical waveguide includes an integral optical transport layer, including electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical interfaces connected at either end of the optical waveguide. With the integrated optical transport layer, the flex interconnect can receive electrical signals, convert and transmit them to optical signals, and then convert them back to electrical signals, all without expensive and bulky opto-electrical connectors. In one embodiment, the flex interconnect is used for transmitting both electrical and optical signals in a portable device, such as a cell phone, PDA, personal computer, and the like.
