    • A column switch that electrically connects a steering wheel side and a vehicle side in an automobile using a flexible flat cable (5). The cable (5) is in the form of a spiral and is accommodated in a housing. The housing includes a lower part defined by a base (1) of the column switch (8), and an upper part defined by a rotor (6) having a cancel cam (6e). The housing also has slits (6f) or reflectors formed thereon for a steering angle sensor (10). The base (1) has a hollow cylinder (1a) formed in the middle thereof through which a steering shaft is inserted. An annular groove (1f) that accommodates the flat cable (5) therein is formed to surround the hollow cylinder (1a). The rotor (6) has resilient fastening straps (6a) and an accommodating space (6d) that covers the annular groove (1f). The resilient fastening straps (6a) rotatably engage a fastening portion (1i) formed on the hollow cylinder (1a). With this construction, the base of the column switch and the housing of the rotary connector can be formed in one integral structure, thereby reducing the number of components and overall cost.

    • A rotary connector apparatus for supplying electric power to an air bag mounted on a steering wheel has a stator housing, a rotor housing, a flexible cable within a space defined by the housings and a slidable sheet temporarily fixed by an engaging claw on the bottom housing until the stator housing is assembled. A bearing over the entire periphery of a lower end of the rotor housing includes a thrust bearing and a radial bearing. Crimp portions protruding from the rotor housing are inserted into a cord cover, and the cord cover is secured by crushing the crimp portions. The cord cover covers an outlet for the cord, and a holder for holding an end of the flexible cable is secured to the rotor housing. The holder has an arc-shaped surface on a side of a space accommodating the cable, and a tongue-shaped elastic piece is secured within a recess on the surface to prevent buckling of the cable.

    • The present invention provides high strength, heat resistant aluminum-based alloys having a composition represented by the general formula: Al.sub.a M.sub.b X.sub.c wherein:M is at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zr, Ti, Mo, W, Ca, Li, Mg and Si;X is at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Ce, Sm, Nd, Hf, Nb, Ta and Mm (misch metal); anda, b and c are atomic percentages falling within the following ranges:50.ltoreq.a.ltoreq.95, 0.5.ltoreq.b.ltoreq.35 and 0.5.ltoreq.c.ltoreq.25,the aluminum-based alloy being in an amorphous state, microcrystalline state or a composite state thereof. The aluminum-based alloys possess an advantageous combination of properties of high strength, heat resistance, superior ductility and good processability which make then suitable for various applications.
