    • A method of optical phase detection, in which a signal light polarized linearly and a local light emitted from a local light laser light source are combined with each other so that an in-phase component and a quadrature component, which is 90 degrees behind the local light in phase and is combined with the signal light, are taken out; and the in-phase component is demodulated while the phase of the signal light and that of the local light are synchronized with each other through the use of the in-phase component and the quadrature component, in which the signal light and the local light are separated into mutually-perpendicular P-polarized and S-polarized components by first and second polarization beam splitters; the phases of the P-polarized or S-polarized components are regulated by first and second optical phase compensation plates so that the polarized components of the signal light are kept in phase with each other, but the polarized components of the local light have a phase difference of 90 degrees between themselves; and the polarized components of the signal light and those of the local light are combined with each other by a first and a second combiner so that the in-phase component and the quadrature component are obtained. Therefore, a method having a low demodulation error can be easily provided to be widely used for high-capacity coherent optical communication.

    • A master cylinder generates master cylinder pressures in response to a brake operation by a driver on a brake pedal. A power hydraulic pressure generation device includes a pressure pump and an accumulator, and the accumulator accumulates an accumulator pressure increased by the pressure pump. A hydraulic pressure control valve device includes holding valves, pressure decreasing valves, and master cut valves for carrying out transmission of the master cylinder pressures from the master cylinder or the accumulator pressure from the accumulator. A stroke simulator is connected to a master pressure pipe via a simulator cut valve. The normally-open master cut valves and the normally-closed simulator cut valve for carrying out transmission of the master cylinder pressures mechanically generated by the master cylinder are backed up with backup electric power so that the operations continue even in the event of a change in state of electric power supply.

    • A master cylinder generates a master cylinder pressure in response to a stepping operation by a driver on a brake pedal. A power hydraulic pressure generation device includes a pressurizing pump and an accumulator, and a hydraulic pressure of a working fluid pressurized by the pressurizing pump is accumulated by the accumulator as an accumulator pressure. A pressure increasing mechanism communicates to the master cylinder and the accumulator, mechanically moves in response to the master cylinder pressure supplied from the master cylinder, and uses the accumulator pressure supplied from the accumulator to generate a servo pressure. A pressure increasing mechanism cut valve serving as a shut-off valve is a normally-closed electromagnetic on-off valve, and is provided on a high pressure supply passage for communication between the accumulator and the pressure increasing mechanism. The pressure increasing mechanism cut valve is controlled by a brake ECU to be in a closed state for shutting off the communication between the accumulator and the pressure increasing mechanism.

The system executes a first control in which a supply pressure of the working fluid becomes a target supply pressure and a second control for making the supply pressure fall within the target range. When the valve device is being operated, the second control is normally operated, and when the supply pressure is higher than a threshold value, the first control is executed. Where completion of the operation of the valve device is estimated, the system performs at least one of reducing the threshold value, reducing an upper limit value of the target range, increasing an electric power supplied to a pressure-reduce linear valve during the first control when the valve device is being operated, and reducing the target supply pressure.
