    • A fixing device and an image forming apparatus having the fixing device are provided. The fixing device includes at least two support members, a belt wound on the support members and supported to be movable in a circumferential direction of the support members, a heating member compressed to the belt, and a heat source heating the heating member. A recording medium electrostatically carrying a toner image passes through a fixing nip section formed between the belt and the heating member, thereby heating and fixing the toner image onto the recording medium. Among suspended portions of the belt suspended between the support members, a first suspended portion is in a tensile state, and the second suspended portion is in a non-tensile state. The heating member contacts the outside of the tensile suspended portion to form the fixing nip section.

    • An image forming apparatus, including toner image agitating units installed between transfer locations and charging locations of a plurality of image forming portions disposed on a transfer carrier belt, reducing adhesion of residual toner to photosensitive conductors. Toner agitating intensities by the toner image agitating units increase in a direction in which the transfer carrier belt transfers paper. Accordingly, a degradation of the quality of an image due to the residual toner is substantially prevented, leading to an improvement in the printing quality. Also, due to adequate distribution of loads upon the photosensitive conductors, the manufacturing costs and life spans of the photosensitive conductors may be reasonably controlled while keeping a high quality image.

    • A polymer comprising recurring units of formula (2) is prepared by effecting deblocking reaction on a polymer comprising recurring units of formula (1) in the presence of an acid catalyst. In the formulae, R1 and R4 are H or methyl, R2 and R3 are C1-C10 alkyl, or R2 and R3 may form a ring, R5 is H, hydroxyl, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen, R6 and R7 are H, methyl, alkoxycarbonyl, cyano or halogen, R8 is C4-C20 tertiary alkyl, n is an integer of 0 to 4, p is a positive number, q and r each are 0 or a positive number, exclusive of q=r=0, p1 is a positive number, p2 is 0 or a positive number, and p1+p2=p. The polymer thus produced has a narrower molecular weight distribution than polymers produced by the prior art methods. A resist composition comprising the polymer as a base resin has advantages including a dissolution contrast of resist film, high resolution, exposure latitude, process flexibility, good pattern profile after exposure, and minimized line edge roughness.
