    • Using a synthetic diamond as the material of a prism allows ATR spectral analysis to be conducted only by pushing it into contact with a measuring object for measurement at places with poor environment, measurement of structures themselves, or measurement of samples sticking to cloths or the like, an optical part such as an infrared microscope system oriented sample plate can withstand a large number of times of use. A measuring instrument employs an attenuated total reflection (ATR) prism 14 of the synthetic diamond, having a nitrogen content of not more than 3 ppm and a boron content of not more than 3 ppm as contained in crystal. In combination with this prism 14 are optical-use mirrors 12, 17, lenses 13, 16, or optical fiber, whereby measurement can be conducted by pushing the prism into direct contact with a sample 15 without using a holder or the like.

    • A feed regulator of a sewing machine capable of varying a seam length at the stitching operation employs a first driving device for swingably driving a feed regulating table by way of a link mechanism so that a feed dog can switch the feed direction, whereby a reverse stitching operation can be performed in the same way as the conventional feed regulator. The feed regulator also employs a link mechanism having one surface for retaining the projection of the link member having a slit, one surface of which can retain the projection of the link mechanism, and a second driving device for driving the link member, whereby the reverse stitching operation can be performed by second driving device in the arbitrary seam length.

    • A needle thread drawing device utilizes a thread end holding device rotatably mounted on an arm of a sewing machine. A needle thread gripping puller which can be disposed to be at a thread catch position or a return position has a hook portion at a tip end thereof for catching a needle thread extended downward from a needle hole of a needle. A needle thread drawing member is mounted swingably on the side of the arm and has a hook portion at a tip end thereof. A cam member is positioned at the side of the thread end holding device and is rotatable in synchronism with the puller for rotatably swinging the needle thread drawing member so that the hook portion can hold the needle thread when the needle thread holding portion is positioned over the needle hole of the needle and can draw a thread end of the needle thread when the hook portion of the puller is positioned under the needle hole of the needle when the puller is disposed in the thread catch position.
