    • Techniques and structures for tuning integrated, distributed voltage-controlled oscillators (DVCO's) across a wide microwave frequency range are disclosed. One type of DVCO implements a tuning circuit that includes a pair of interconnected amplifying transistors and a current source connected to the transistors, such that a differential voltage input to the circuit adjusts the current to each transistor and effectively adjusts the “electrical length” of one of the transmission lines on which the output frequency is oscillating. This, in turn, adjusts the time delay and thus frequency of the signal propagating on the lines across a wide frequency band. This technique is called “current-steering.” In a preferred embodiment, the tuning circuit is balanced with a complementary tuning circuit to effectively adjust the electrical length of the second transmission line in the oscillator. In another technique that provides for more coarse, but wider range, broadband frequency tuning, the time delay, and thus, frequency, of the DVCO is adjustable by varying the capacitive loading on the transmission lines, by introducing a coupling capacitor between the transmission lines and tuning the intrinsic capacitances of the gain transistors with a dc bias input.

    • A high-frequency, e.g., microwave, antenna (100) is stamped from a single sheet (300) of electromagnetically conductive material, e.g., a metal plate. A manufacture comprising a frame (104), a plurality of radiator antenna elements (108), a plurality of first supports (112) each connecting a radiator antenna element to the frame, a feed network (110) connected to the radiator antenna elements, and a plurality of second supports (304) connecting the radiators and the feed network to each other and to the frame, are stamped out of the single sheet. A combiner (114) may be included in the manufacture as well. The second supports provide alignment and rigidity during manufacture and assembly. Preferably, a plurality of the manufactures are stamped out side-by-side from a single roll (400) for ease of automated manufacture and assembly. The frame is either made in two pieces (200, 202) or is bent relative to the resonator antenna elements along fold lines (302), to provide an offset of the radiators from a ground plane (102). The frame is mounted on the ground plane, and the second supports are then removed. Preferably, the feed network is positioned (e.g., by being bent) to lie closer to the ground plane than the radiator antenna elements.

    • The disclosed superconducting multipole RF filter comprises a multiplicity of coupled circular disk resonators designed for operation in the TM 010 mode. The disk resonators are arranged in a co-axial stack, with a circular metal spacer sandwiched between any two neighboring disk resonators. Each metal spacer has a central through-aperture, with a conductive member disposed in the through-aperture and electrically connecting the two neighboring disk resonators that are sandwiching a given metal spacer. A disk resonator comprises two circular members, each circular member comprising a circular dielectric substrate, exemplarily a LaAlO.sub.3 wafer. Superconducting layers (typically YBCO) are disposed on each major surface of the substrate. The two members are joined together such that conductive layers (typically gold) electrically connect the two outside superconducting layers. The disclosed RF filter has good power handling capability, is compact, has good heat removal and relatively simple tuning. It can, for instance, be advantageously used as transmit filter in base stations of a wireless communication system.
