    • A negative electrode of a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery contains, as main a component, composite particles constructed in such a manner that at least part of the surface of nuclear particles comprising at least one of tin, silicon and zinc as a constituent element, is coated with a solid solution or an inter-metallic compound composed of elements included in the nuclear particle and at least one element, exclusive of the element included in said nuclear particle, selected from a group of elements in a Periodic Table, comprising group 2 elements, transition elements, group 12 elements, group 13 elements and group 14 elements exclusive of carbon. The batteries of the present invention include non-aqueous electrolytic solution and solid electrolytes comprising polymer gel electrolytes. The construction of the present invention provides a non-aqueous electrolytic secondary battery with which a possibility of the generation of gas is extremely low when stored at high temperatures. It also provides a battery having higher capacity, and superior cycle properties, high-rate charge/discharge properties.

    • A communication system in which a reception signal can be accurately obtained from a signal transmitted over two-wire type transmission lines without any significant reduction in the communication speed. The communication system utilizing two-wire type transmission lines for transmitting transmission signals in opposite phases has a plurality of nodes connected to the two-wire type transmission lines, and each of the nodes incorporates terminating resistors acting upon the two-wire type transmission lines. A node which includes a reception circuit for receiving a transmission signal has an AC coupling circuit for extracting AC components in a transmission signal input through the transmission lines, a bias circuit for applying a bias voltage to a signal output from the AC coupling circuit and a clip circuit for clipping the level of a signal output from the bias circuit, which are provided at each of the two-wire type transmission lines.

    • A non-aqueous electrolyte is disclosed, which comprises a non-aqueous solvent and a solute represented by the general formula(1): MBR1R2R3R4, wherein M is an alkali metal atom or an ammonium group and R1 to R4 are each independently electron withdrawing groups or electron withdrawing atoms bound to B where at least one of R1 to R4 is other than a fluorine atom. The solute has a thermal stability substantially equal to that of LiBF4 and an anion portion having a high electronegativity, and easily dissociates into ions. Therefore, a non-aqueous electrolyte containing this solute has a high ionic conductivity and is difficult to cause a generation of a gas or deterioration in characteristics due to the decomposition of the solute, which occurs during use at high temperatures or after storage at high temperatures.
