Further, the printing plate has applied thereto any one of a heat-curable and water-soluble substance, if desired, immediately after the laser imaging, or a water-soluble substance immediately after the laser imaging, followed by warming of the printing plate. The water-soluble substance or the heat-curable and water-soluble substance is washed off using a solution essentially consisting of water before printing.

    • To compensate for tolerances and variations in tolerances in a recording system in which a thermal transfer foil is passed between a image recording element (3) and a printing form carrier (1), the thermal transfer foil, for example of a polyester base (9), has an intermediate layer (8) applied thereto on which a meltable substance layer (7, 7'), for example on a polyethylene base, is located. The intermediate layer (8) is thermally volume expandable, by including therein either a foaming agent or moisture or other gas which, upon application of heat, causes foaming or the formation of gas or steam bubbles to expand its volume. Tolerances 6 of up to about 1 mm, thus, can be compensated and pressure variations and surface variations between the thermal image recording element (3) and the form carrier (1) are no longer critical. The accuracy and sharpness of transfer of meltable particles from the meltable layer (7) to the form (1) is not affected by the presence of the thermally expandable layer which, upon influence of heat, will expand only after the meltable substance has melted, due to a selection of thermal expansion material, for example foaming agent, which has a threshold or foaming temperature higher than the melting temperature of the meltable substance (7).

    • A floatable smoke pot which floats in a stable position with a casing can water-tightly closed by a cover through a closure device. Smoke-generating bodies of a pyrotechnic material, which can be ignited by an igniting device, are arranged in the casing can. A stable floating position is achieve through a ballast weight in the casing can at the can bottom (14). A number of column elements forming the smoke-generating bodies are arranged in the casing can in a uniformly distributed relationship, standing on the ballast weight. The space which remains free of the column elements in the casing can is filled with a buoyancy material. The cover has holes which in the unused original condition of the smoke pot are water-tightly closed with closure elements which can be torn open so that the smoke pot can also be submerged in water for a limited time without extinguishing of the smoke-generating bodies.

    • A method for reversible imaging of a printing form is provided included feeding a coated transfer film between a printing form and an image information transfer unit having a transfer head. A surface of the printing form is then imaged using image data oriented activation to transfer the transfer film coating in the form of image spots to the printing form. The transfer film is removed from between the printing form and the image information transfer unit. The transferred image spots are fixed on the printing form by re-imaging or fixing the image spots using image data oriented activation. Remaining image information from the printing form is removed or erased once the printing operation is complete so that the printing form is capable of being used in a subsequent printing operation. A device for performing the method is also provided. Optionally, a single laser beam or a plurality of laser beams may be used in the device.
