摘要： The invention provides a photographic element comprising a support bearing a light-sensitive photographic silver halide layer having associated therewith a masking coupler comprising:(1) a parent group containing a -1-phenyl-3-anilinopyrazolin-5-one having electron-withdrawing substituents on the phenyl and anilino rings of a type and number sufficient to provide a combined Hammett sigma(para) value for such substituents of at least 1.4;(2) a coupling-off group at the 4 position of the pyrazolone of the parent group comprising an arylazo dye containing on the aryl ring the following:(A) a substituent para to the azo functionality selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, and alkoxy, carbonamido, and sulfonamido, each unsubstituted or substituted with nonaromatic groups, and(B) "n" additional substituents selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkoxy, carbonamido, and sulfonamido, unsubstituted or substituted with nonaromatic groups, where "n" is 0 to 4;provided that substituent (A) and a substituent (B) may form a ringwherein one of the substituents (A) or (B) contains an alkyl group of at least 8 carbon atoms, unsubstituted or substituted with nonaromatic substituents, and said substituent contains at least 70% of the saturated carbon atoms in all of the substituents (A) and (B) provided that where the substituent (A) forms a ring with a substituent (B), the entire ring will be counted as said one of the substituents which contains an alkyl group of at least 8 carbon atoms for purposes of satisfying the 70% requirement.

摘要： A photographic element and process provide a magenta coupler of the formula: ##STR1## wherein (a) at least one of X1, X2 and R1 and at least one of R2 and R3 is a substituent individually selected from carbamoyl, alkoxycarbonyl, aryloxycarbonyl, sulfamoyl, alkylsulfonyl, arylsulfonyl, alkoxysulfonyl, aryloxysulfonyl, alkylsulfoxyl, arylsulfoxyl, acyloxy, cyano, nitro, and trifluoromethyl;(b) the substituents X1, X2, R1, R2 and R3 not selected from the (a) group may be selected from alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, acylamino, alkylthio, arylthio, sulfonamido, alkylureido, arylureido, alkoxycarbonylamino, aryloxycarbonylamino, and halogen and in the case of R3 hydrogen;(c) substituents R1 and R2 are para or meta to the carbon attached to the nitrogen atom;(d) a and b are 1 to 3;(e) Q is an alkylthio or arylthio coupling-off group.The element provides a deeper magenta hue and reduced blue absorption by the resulting magenta dye.

摘要： This invention relates to a negative silver halide photographic element comprising a support and a silver halide imaging layer containing a light sensitive silver halide imaging emulsion, said silver halide imaging layer further comprising a separately precipitated non-imaging intentionally fogged fine grain emulsion and an electron transfer agent releasing compound represented by formula (I): CAR1-(L)n-ETA (I) wherein: CAR1 is a carrier moiety which is capable of releasing -(L)n-ETA on reaction with oxidized developing agent; L is a divalent linking group, n is 0, 1 or 2; and ETA is a releasable electron transfer agent, and (optionally) a development accelerator releasing compound represented by the formula (II): CAR2—(SAM)-NX1—NX2X3 (II) wherein: CAR2 is a carrier moiety which is capable of releasing —(SAM)-NX1—NX2X3 on reaction with oxidized developing agent; SAM is a silver absorbable moiety attached to the carrier moiety and is released on reaction with oxidized development agent; and —NX1—NX2X3 is a hydrazine group wherein X1, X2 and X3 are individually hydrogen or a substituent chosen from alkyl, aryl, carbonyl, or sulfonyl groups with the proviso that at least one of X1, X2 and X3 is hydrogen.

摘要： This invention relates to a method of spectrally sensitizing a silver halide emulsion comprising the following steps in the following order a) providing a silver halide emulsion comprising tabular silver halide grains having an inner dye layer adjacent to the silver halide grain, said dye layer comprising at least one dye (Dye 1) that is capable of spectrally sensitizing silver halide, b) adding to the emulsion at least one dye (Dye 2) capable of providing a second dye layer adjacent to the inner dye layer, and c) adding to the emulsion a non-cationic surfactant or a scavenger for oxidized developer, or a combination of the two, to form a silver halide emulsion comprising silver halide grains having associated therewith two dye layers, wherein the dye layers are held together by non-covalent forces or by in situ bond formation; the outer dye layer adsorbs light at equal or higher energy than the inner dye layer; and the energy emission wavelength of the outer dye layer overlaps with the energy absorption wavelength of the inner dye layer.

摘要： Disclosed is a color silver halide photographic element comprising a support bearing: (1) a light sensitive silver halide emulsion layer; (2) a nitrogen heterocycle with a minimum of three heteroatoms that does not react with oxidized developer, does not contain free thiol substituents, and has a ClogP sufficient to increase the photographic speed of said element compared to the same element without the compound, said heterocycle compound located either in said light sensitive layer or in a layer adjacent to it; and (3) a light reflecting silver halide material; provided that the heterocycle compound and the light reflecting material are located either (a) in different layers of the element located close enough to each other so that a super-additive speed increase is realized or (b) in the same light sensitive layer. The invention provides improved light sensitivity.
