    • The focus controlling system of the present invention can include a calibration paper, an image capturing device, an input interface, and a processing and controlling device. One or more calibration papers can be employed in the focus controlling system. The image capturing device is employed for scanning the calibration paper. The image capturing device has a focus point adjusting mechanism. The input interface is utilized for receiving a location data of a scanning point. The processing and controlling device is responsive to the input interface and the image capturing device to control the focus point adjusting mechanism by evaluating a resolution index. As an example, the image capturing system can be a flatbed scanning system. One of the focus controlling method of the present invention includes the steps as follows. At first, a scanning point is set or detected and the position of an image capturing device is adjusted to scan a selected calibration paper of two or more calibration papers. The selected calibration paper has about the same height as the scanning point. A focus point of a image capturing device is adjusted and a calibration paper is scanned to generate a resolution index. The adjusting step and the scanning step are then repeated until about a maximum value of the resolution index is reached.

    • A scanner module with adjustable magnification ratio includes a photo-mechanical body, a charge-coupled device module and a pressing device, such as a wedge element or an adjusting screw. The photo-mechanical body is arranged along an optical distance and has a first plane vertical to the direction of the optical distance. The charge-coupled device module is arranged along the direction of the optical distance in the photo-mechanical body and has a second plane vertical to the optical distance and facing to the first plane. The pressing device is supported by the second plane and vertical to the first plane, for enabling the charge-coupled device module to move back and forth along the optical distance. Therefore, the magnification ratio of the scanner module can be adjusted through the length of the optical distance. In addition, a cylinder or guiding slot can also be arranged at the sides of the charge-coupled device module in the photo-mechanical body, for positioning the charge-coupled device module when the photo-mechanical body is moving.

    • The present invention provides a control method for moving and positioning multiple lens of a scanner to their accurate position. The method mainly uses a linear reference image, such as a calibration paper with some marks in the scanning range, taken by a specific lens to a CCD for verifying if the lens is well positioned according to a decision rule. The lens is controlled to move to its correct position by the continuous feedback signals from the CCD, so the accuracy and reliability of the positioning can be kept without being influenced from any worn-out of frequent movements of the mechanism.

    • A method for quick determination of a scan start point for an image scanner is disclosed. The image scanner includes a photo-processing device and a scanning platform for placing thereon a document to be scanned. The scanning platform is printed with a pattern mark which is located between a home position and a scan start point of the photo-processing device, and has a specified point being a predetermined first shift to the scan start point along a specific direction. According to the method, the photo-processing device moves a predetermined distance from the home position to a pre-scan position overlapping with the pattern mark, then moves a calculated distance from the pre-scan position to the specified point, and moves another predetermined distance from the specified point to the scan start point along the specific direction.

    • The invention discloses a multi-resolution scanner that scans documents without moving scanner components. Single light source and lenses with different resolutions are combined for scanning the transparent and the reflective documents that reduces the scanner sizes and cost. Lights from the transparent documents follow different optical path with the reflective documents' to project to the charged-coupled device. The transparent documents and the reflective documents respectively use a lens with different resolution for achieving the documents' requirements.

    • A handy scanner for scanning an image by user hand-held operation along the surface of a sheet of document is disclosed.
