    • A rotary shock absorber suitable for use in a suspension system of a vehicle. The shock absorber is provided with a housing and a rotary shaft supported by the housing for relative rotation thereto. A pressure chamber is formed in the housing and a rotor having a pair of blades is received within the pressure chamber. Further, a pair of partition walls are formed within the pressure chamber to define first and second chambers at both sides of each blade, and the first and second chambers are communicated with each other through throttles. When the rotary shaft is rotated, a high viscous fluid filled within the first and second chambers flows therebetween through the throttles. Due to the flow resistances of the throttles, pressures are generated in the first or second chambers. This pressure generation is used to generate a damping force. The shock absorber is further provided with a mechanism which changes the characteristic of damping force generation depending on the rotational direction of the rotary shaft. In some embodiments, the shock absorber has a stopper function which drastically increases the damping force at the stroke ends.

    • A driving torque transmitting device which has a differential case to which driving torque of an engine is transmitted. Within the differential case, a pair of side gears meshed with pinion gears are disposed around right and left axle shafts so as to be axially slidable thereon. Two annular pistons are disposed between the side gears and end walls of the differential case in contact with the side gears so as to be rotatable with and axially slidable on the differential case to form two annular closed actuating chambers with the end walls of the differential case. Within the closed actuating chambers are disposed two blade plates so as to rotate respectively with the two axle shafts whereby the actuating chambers are divided into two spaces. These two spaces are charged with high-viscosity oil. Due to the relative rotation of the two axle shafts and the differential case, high pressure is generated in the closed actuating chambers to push the pistons toward the side gears so that the side gears are tightly engaged with the pinion gears. Accordingly, the two axle shafts start rotating integrally with the differential case.

    • A vane type rotary pump comprises a cam ring mounted within a stator housing and having an inner peripheral wall defining four circumferentially equi-spaced semicylindrical inner cam surfaces, a pair of end wall structures fitted to opposite ends of the cam ring to form a pump cavity, a drive shaft rotatably mounted within the stator housing, a rotor contained within the pump cavity and mounted on the drive shaft for rotation therewith, and a plurality of circumferentially equi-spaced vanes slidably fitted in the body of the rotor to cooperate with the inner cam surfaces to form four pairs of suction and delivery chambers. One of the end wall structures is formed with four pairs of circumferentially spaced suction and delivery ports in communication with the respective suction and delivery chambers, and a pair of changeover valves are disposed within a pair of delivery passages in connection to a pair of the diametrically opposed delivery ports to connect the delivery passages to the suction ports associated with the diametrically opposed delivery ports in their activated conditions and to disconnect the delivery passages from the suction ports in their deactivated conditions. The changeover valves are arranged to be simultaneously activated when the rotational speed of the drive shaft exceeds a predetermined value.

    • A method to configure an apparatus to obtain a color image for printing. The apparatus presents the printing option of converting the color image into a standard monochrome image or a color-highlighted monochrome image. Black colored portions of the original color image are shown to be predominantly darker in the standard monochrome image. Colored portions, of a predetermined color of the original color image, are shown to be predominantly darker in the color-highlighted monochrome image, and black colored portions, of the original color image, are less prominent. The apparatus applies filters to the color image to produce the standard or color-high-lighted monochrome image, and outputs whichever option is selected by the user.
