    • Exemplary embodiments provide a fixing member having a textured surface, and methods for making and using the textured fixing member. The fixing member can include a substrate having one or more functional layers formed thereon. The one or more functional layers can include an outermost or top surface having a surface wettability that is hydrophobic and/or oleophobic; ultrahydrophobic and/or ultraoleophobic; or superhydrophobic and/or superoleophobic by forming textured features. Such fixing member can be used as an oil-less fusing member for high speed, high quality electrophotographic printing to ensure and maintain a good toner release from the fused toner image on an image supporting material(e.g., a paper sheet), and further assist paper stripping. In addition, the textured surface can provide an oil-free, such as wax-free, toner design for the oil-less fixing process.

    • In accordance with the invention, there are printing apparatuses and methods of forming an image. An exemplary printing apparatus can include a fuser subsystem including one-or more light induced heating elements, each of the one or more light induced heating elements including plurality of nanomaterials, wherein the nanomaterials are selected from the group consisting of carbon nanotubes and metal nanoshells. The exemplary printing apparatus can also include one or more light sources disposed in close proximity to the one or more light induced heating elements, each of the one or more light sources having an emission in the absorption range of the plurality of nanomaterials and disposed to produce heat in the fuser subsystem by light absorption by the plurality of nanomaterials.

    • A method for improving the sound quality of voice signals transmitted during a call between two digital wireless telephones by diverting the call from a circuit switched network to a data network is disclosed. In accordance with the present invention, a call setup procedure using the circuit switched network is modified so that the calling party may determine the following information: I) whether the called party's digital wireless telephone is able to support one of the voice compression algorithms supported by the calling party's digital wireless telephone and 2) whether both wireless telephones have access to the same data network. If the called party's digital wireless telephone is able to support one of the voice compression algorithms supported by the calling party's digital wireless telephone and both wireless telephones have access to the same data network, the circuit switched network call setup procedure is abandoned before the called party answers the call and the call is completed using the data network. Completing the call by encoding voice signals using a common voice compression algorithm executed by the digital wireless telephones and by sending the encoded voice signals through a data network eliminates the drawbacks associated with the additional intermediate encoding which would have been required if the call had been completed using the circuit switched network.
