    • A method for operating a point-of-transaction system carried by a fixture to efficiently use areas of a store during periods of differing intensity of usage, by placing the fixture at a prescribed area of the store and configuring the point-of-transaction system with point-of-transaction terminal components for processing items to be purchased by customers during a period of relatively intense usage. During a period of relatively less intense usage, the fixture is reconfigured as a display stand by relocating at least some of said point-of-transaction components from the fixture, and overlying remaining point-of-transaction components of the fixture with a display surface. During intense usage periods the components are located on a shelf overlying the fixture. The reconfiguration includes repositioning the shelf together with the remaining components to a location beneath the display surface within the fixture. The shelf is mounted on a slidable column above the fixture, so that reconfiguring includes detaching the shelf from the column, followed by lowering the slidable column into the fixture.

    • The present disclosure concerns a bar code reader 10 that can both interpret bar codes and determine a feature of a target object 230 not having a bar code affixed thereto. The bar code reader includes a housing including one or more transparent windows H, V and defining a housing interior region. As a target object is swiped or presented in relation to the transparent windows an image of the target object is captured. A camera C1-C6 has an image capture sensor array positioned within the housing interior region for capturing an image of a bar code within a camera field of view. An image processing system has a processor for decoding a bar code carried by the target object. If the target object has no bar code, the image processing system determines a feature such as a dimension of the target object from images captured by the imaging system.

    • A sleeping bag having a mattress comprising a bottom insulating water-proof layer, which rests upon ground or camping surface. The mattress further includes a material filled layer attached to the top mattress surface. The sleeping bag is made with an inflatable canopy for further protecting a user, or to permit the mattress to be integrated within a tent. The canopy is inflated by means of introducing air into air tubes configured and integrated into the canopy. The inflatable canopy, optionally, has a vestibule for storing or keeping items for the user of the sleeping bag. The sleeping bag has a canopy, which may be drawn over the mattress to enclose a sleeper using the sleeping bag. The canopy is attached to the mattress by two-way zippers operable the full circumference of the mattress. The two way zippers and mattress are configured to attach and include the mattress within the tent. The canopy that deploys by means of two air tubes that, when inflated, causes the canopy to arch over a user reclining upon the mattress. The vestibule may be made so that inflation of the canopy also causes the vestibule, when attached, to deploy and inflate to receive objects for storage.

    • A client software component for a personal computer (PC) interacts with a server of an Internet Service Provider (ISP) to require messages, such as advertisements, to be displayed in a particular manner on a display screen of the PC for interaction with a user and reporting user activity. As long as a valid communication connection between the PC and the ISP exists, the PC is forced to display a particular message in a particular fashion. A user will not be allowed to minimize the message, close the message, or hide the message behind other windows on the PC display screen. The messages will also be interactive so that users are able to get more information related to a particular message, such as by automatically browsing to an associated location on the World Wide Web of the Internet. Information related to interaction with the user is also tracked and communicated back to the ISP for storage and reporting. The user is also able to designate message selection criteria, such as expressing an interest in seeing certain types of advertisements.
