    • A controlled variable-calculating apparatus and method that can easily calculate a controlled variable from one or more input variables and that can appropriately learn control characteristics for the calculation of the controlled variable. The control characteristics are represented as a surface embedded in an (n+1)-dimensional space, and are used to control one controlled variable from n variables. The control characteristics are approximated by an assemblage of flat planes corresponding to subspaces obtained by dividing an n-dimensional input space. For example, a two-dimensional input space defined by the interior temperature and the amount of sunlight is divided into 15 subspaces. Flat planes 1-15 are made to correspond to the subspaces, respectively. If the interior temperature and the amount of sunlight are entered, a decision is made as to which subspace the environmental conditions belong. The airflow is then calculated using an equation for any one of the flat planes 1-15. If the airflow is needs to be modified, the equation for the flat plane corresponding to the corresponding subspace is updated.

    • When target blowout temperature to the inside of a vehicle is over a predetermined temperature in, an air temperature control system according to the present invention controls a cooling-ability controller to control air temperature of air cooled by a heat exchanger for cooling so that airflow becomes a predetermined temperature, and reduces the amount of blowout air into the vehicle per unit time compared with the amount of the blowout air when the target blowout temperature is under the predetermined temperature. Accordingly, the cooling air temperature due to the heat exchanger for cooling is fixed at the predetermined temperature even when the target blowout temperature is over the predetermined temperature. Therefore, generation of malodors due to dust and mold in the heat exchanger for cooling is prevented.

    • An air conditioner system for an automotive vehicle is particularly adapted to insolation dependent correction of a discharge rate of the conditioning air in cold weather, such as in the winter so that an excessive flow rate of relatively cool air will never be discharged in response to insolation.
